Let me start off with this: this is the only thing I’m going to mention about politics on my blog. Having said that, I’ve been having a really rough week sorting through my feelings and dealing with some anxiety as it pertains to all the election aftermath. I’ve felt really withdrawn and not all that jazz-handy-happy like I ordinarily am. I can usually find the good in just about anything — all those silver linings add up and make for one beautiful sky if you ask me — but this week has just been… hard.
I already feel a tad better just getting that off my chest. Thanks for listening. Moving right along…
Training for a 5K, My Birthday was Amazing, and Thoughts on Blogging
To race or not race… that is the question
I’m in the weird space of “training” for a fast 5K in December and just running for fun. I really want a PR. But I don’t know if I want it bad enough to run fast and hard and do all the speed-work leading up to the race. I also really dislike running in the cold. Like, so much. It was one thing when I was training in the negative-degrees with my friends for the Cleveland Marathon, but it’s quite another just to be like, “hey, I’m gonna go run 8 miles today and it’s 26? out right now!” Totally not awesome. I dunno. What should I do? Go for the 5K PR, or just chill and have fun?
My birthday was amazing
I had a fantastic birthday with my people last week. I was a bit melancholy but my mama and I went out for a delicious breakfast lunch (yes, that made sense — kind of) which of course totally made it better. Because seriously, who can resist cinnamon chip pancakes? Certainly not me.
After a full day of hanging out with my mom and the little lady, we had a delicious birthday dinner and my husband surprised me with the most fantastic gift I could have ever asked for. It literally brought tears to my eyes. I can’t wait to start using it for realz, even though I absolutely need to take a class or two to figure out what the heck I’m doing. So. Many. Settings.
Some thoughts on blogging
Another thing that’s been on my mind lately, and actually I guess it depends on what Amanda decides about the future of Thinking Out Loud… but, I’ve been debating for several months now on whether to continue blogging five days a week. I love blogging, to be sure. But it does take away time from my family and sometimes I just want to go lay in my bed and read a book or watch TV. If Amanda nixes TOL, there’s a good chance I’ll be offline on Thursdays for a while. And if she doesn’t nix TOL, I may pop up every now and again with a TOL post but maybe I won’t stress about it too much, for now I might look into WordPress alternatives to see if I can gain some benefits from another platform that may help time schedules.
However, my fellow blogger friends have asked me to stick to WordPress for some more time because of the unique features available on the platform. While they were telling me about different useful features, one of them- Excerpt-had particularly caught my attention. But What is Excerpt in WordPress? On enquiring further, I got to know that this feature allows a synopsis of a longer article. It is often used as a replacement on the blog index and archive pages to avoid the display of full content (of each post). Additionally, an excerpt is beneficial because it improves page loading time and reduces bounce rate. Altogether, this can play an important role in generating advertising revenue.
Anyway, I understand that scheduling blogs regularly can be hectic. It is something that may happen after a long-time blogging. And those who are new to blogging might find it soon enough, but blogging is still always fun for those who have time for it. Moreover, it’s good to have something like hostiserver that can save your blog until you have time to blog again.
Family matters and TV time
My mama left on Wednesday afternoon. It was an amazing week with her and we already miss her so much. It sucks having family live so far away. Makes for sad holidays and birthdays — although she was here for my birthday this year so it was less sad! We’re lucky to have my aunt and uncle nearby. But there’s something about having your own parents to spend time with, ya know?
Random question/thought time: Do you watch the show Pitch? Or This Is Us? If you don’t watch either, I highly recommend them. They’re awesome. This Is Us is on NBC on Tuesday nights and Pitch is on FOX on Thursday nights. Set your DVR. You can thank me later.
Okay peeps, that’s all from here. I hope you have a wonderful Thursday!
