Motivation and inspiration can come from almost anywhere — music, quotes, even art. But one of my favorite places to find motivation and inspiration is from movies. I never liked sports as a kid — watching or playing — but I always had a soft-spot for sports movies. There’s just something about an amazing ass-whooping that you can’t get from any other movie. You can usually find them using a Pirate proxy, or something similar. Check out my list of my top five favorite sports movies:
5 Sports Movies to Jumpstart Your Motivation
Rocky IV
Rocky IV is by far the best movie Rocky there is. I was awestruck when I first watched Rocky’s crazy training cycle. And now I want to do it myself! WATCH OUT, ROCKY — IMMA COMING FOR YA! Okay, maybe not really. But yowza — the adrenaline just from watching Rocky IV. Indescribable!
The Blind Side
Big Mike? Who wasn’t enamored with the star-studded cast AND this amazing story of a guy who rose from the dark fringes of society to become an incredible football player? As a mom, this one tugs on my heart strings, too. The Blind Side is a fantastic motivational story.
Breaking Away
My brother was obsessed with Breaking Away in high school. And for good reason, too! He cycled all day, every day, and was quite good at it. I didn’t watch Breaking Away until I was in college at IU (where it was both filmed and takes place) and I have to say, it’s another incredibly motivating movie.
Chariots of Fire
Another oldie but goodie, Chariots of Fire is a classic in the truest sense of the word. It’s not like the other sports movies with the underdogs and the fight and the triumphant ending. It’s about humans being humans and motivation from different sources. If you haven’t seen this film or it’s been a while, add it to your queue.
Remember the Titans
I distinctly recall thinking my college roomie was loco for liking Remember the Titans. At the time she was studying to become an athletic trainer so of course all things sports was her groove. But I was in the middle of smoking too many cigarettes and other things, and drinking until the wee hours of the morning to pay much attention to sports and health. But when I finally saw Remember the Titans, I was blown away. It’s a fantastic flick. I highly recommend it if you haven’t already seen it.
If you’ve got a few hours to spare this weekend and haven’t seen these movies, I promise they won’t disappoint! They’ll get you amped up for your next race, your next meeting, or just a kick-ass sweat session.
Have a great weekend!
