Today has been a good day so far. I woke up early, after a night of not sleeping great, to meet up with some friends for an early morning run. The sun was rising as I was pulling on my fleece lined running tights, and I was looking forward to getting outside. Two friends came over to my house to carpool, and we met our third friend at our running location. I hadn’t seen the third friend in 15 years. It was nice to see him. He looks the same. Maybe a little taller. It was really nice to have three of my completely unacquainted friends finally meet each other over a common interest! I don’t think I realized how totally bizarre it might have been for these three perfect strangers to get together for an early morning run until just now… Anyways, it was quite fun, and we are all looking forward to next week’s meet. 🙂
I originally planned to run a 5 mile pace run this morning, but there were four of us running together. Two of us (them) were faster than two of us (us), so we ended up splitting pretty early into the run. I watched the gray and blonde spot and the safety orange and blonde spot running further and further into the distance. I joked they would lap us at the end. Somehow they didn’t!
I ran with my recently postpartum friend (about four months?), and we took our time and chatted. The way out was downhill, which meant the way back was uphill. Uh oh! We ran at a very comfortable pace, and had some nice talk time. The weather was a balmy 34˚ but the sun was out and it felt very nice to get some much needed vitamin D. We had some really good conversations. I really had a great time! My running pals are so nice and fun to be around. I truly value the time on the road with them.
Tomorrow is a 10-miler. This will be my second time running this distance. After tomorrow, I’m in new territory, folks. Training has been fun, in a strangely addicting kind of way. Not so much fun as in, “hey I just rode this awesome new roller coaster!” kind of way. More of a, “whoa. I can’t believe I just ran that far” kind of feeling.
A bunch of my friends ran a mini (half) marathon and a full marathon this morning. Most of them have been in Louisville, but also spread around the country. ATL, Missouri, lots of places. I have been so excited seeing their race photos and stats rolling on to Facebook. They are all so proud and accomplished feeling! I’m so proud of them. They put in all the training and hard work. Today was certainly their day to shine. A few more friends will be in the spotlight on Monday for the Boston Marathon. W00t!! Can’t wait to hear all about it.
Happy Easter to everyone celebrating tomorrow! I will celebrate with a mini indoor egg hunt at home for my son (my husband was raised Methodist), and probably some more Cadbury eggs. I’ve been nibbling on them all month. I may have a small chocolate addiction. Hey, don’t judge!
Have a great day!
