The first week of August has flown by. I know we’re not to the end yet, but it’s already Thursday, y’all. THURSDAY! And you know what that means, don’t you? It’s time for some stream of consciousness… best day ever!
Air Travel, Injuries, and Pink Floyd
The week started off somewhat terribly. I drove Noemi to her new home in Texas and in doing so, I got stranded on my flight out. Thank GAWD I wasn’t stuck overnight otherwise I would have been super peeved.
Between my first cancelled flight, onto the next flight where I actually sat on the plane and then deplaned, and then finally took off on a third flight — to the three delays of my connecting flight — Monday was a super hot mess.
I was overtired after not having slept well for basically the entire week leading up to Monday, all I really wanted to do was catch a flight to PHX to see my family, and I just kept getting jerked around by American Airlines.
But I dropped Noemi off safe and sound in Austin and got a lot of alone time on Monday (silver lining?).
While we’re talking about this, huge thanks to the best husband in the world who got me home with sanity [barely] intact. And thanks to my kids for being such troopers and picking me up at 2:00 am on Monday. My family’s the best.
Speaking of American Airlines and family…
Guess what happened the very next day? My brother got jerked around by American, too. His flight ended up being cancelled at almost midnight. Cancelled! At midnight!! I would have been fuming. And now his bags are MIA.
Not to slander an airline or anything, but word to the wise: do NOT fly American. Ever.
Other than air travel woes, this week’s been pretty good. Except my left leg is not faring so well. After taking several days off with no running, my ankle was feeling better until after my Wednesday run. All of a sudden it felt like I had shin splints and my leg started to swell a bit. Good lord, what is going on with me this training cycle?! Now my leg looks like this:
My kids and I were listening to Pink Floyd during lunch when…
We decided to hit the music store afterward. Something about listening to Pink Floyd just makes me want to go play music. I have a piano and a 12-string that’s in desperate need of a good stringing, but it’s totally not the same. Plus a little side trip to the music store is good for the soul.
When we got there I asked the guitar guy about restringing my guitar — and then of course, my little people got all excited about ukuleles, mandolins, and acoustic guitars. If this starts something with them, it looks like I’ll have to take a good look at some guitars, at least I can see more here and take my pick!
After guitars we hit up drums. The guy working in drums was surprised to hear I let my kids listen to Pink Floyd. Exact words, “you’re starting them young on Floyd!” And with raised eyebrow I said, “seriously?” Apparently he’s never heard of young kids listening to Pink Floyd so I had to tell him all about our Babies Go Pink Floyd cd.
After the music store, we rounded out the day with some Dead and Beatles for good measure.
Also — shopping cart races. Because why the heck not?
Oh, and I haven’t started ripping up carpet yet. While I was gone my husband decided to start ripping up landscaping. My office-to-fitness-room conversion is temporarily on hold.
