Hey hey, friends! This week is going to be a crazy week for me, so I’ve enlisted the help of some fabulous ladies to help me out with my blog. They have some great things to say, so stay tuned to get a taste of some new bloggers, new recipes, a little bit of this, and a little bit of that! I know Mondays are normally recipe day, but I’m switching things up a bit this week!
A quick recap of the weekend before I open the gates to my guests tomorrow. On Saturday I ran a 5 mile pace run, and I crushed it! I was on cloud nine when I made it back to my house. My husband was shocked that I was back so early, which told me I made great time! I was very proud of myself. I would also like to note that I rocked the SureSport Compression Sleeves that I reviewed last week, and I LOVED them. I will be wearing these for many more runs in the future!
After my awesomesauce 5-miler on Saturday.
Sunday morning was a 5K that I completed with my husband and a running pal of mine (actually a high school pal turned running pal), and again, we all crushed it! Well I don’t know about my high school friend. He is a pretty accomplished runner so this might not have been a PR for him. But it was for my husband and me. This was actually my husband’s first 5K and I am so super stoked for him! I asked him what our strategy was on the way to the race (why I have a strategy with my fellow runners, I’m not sure — but I do) and he said to run together. He’s 6’4″ and I’m 5’1″ so I knew that wasn’t going to happen. But we started together and stuck together for oh, about, 10 yards. Then we got separated. I had him and my friend within eyesight the entire race, and I felt pretty good about that.
Post-race: me, the hubs, and our friend David.
I think going forward I won’t listen to music for any races less than 10 miles. It was truthfully kind of annoying. However, I’m not the proud owner of a Garmin or other such GPS watch, so I had to dutifully track my miles via MapMyRun. I was listening for the lady to shout out my splits, and when I saw the 3 mile sign and she called out 25 minutes something or other, I was elated. When I crossed the finish line I saw 26:04. My official finish time was 25:59. I crushed my original time at this race by a minute and thirty seconds. It was amazing. AND, I didn’t dry heave this time either. Score! 😉 This year I placed 4th in my age group, and 53rd out of 202 runners. For a race recap of my 2012 run, click here.
The weather was quite chilly yet again (is it never going to be nice out for this race?!) and although I made an excellent apparel choice, I probably could have dressed a tad warmer.
I was scheduled for a nine miler today, and brought all of my running accessories (fuel belt, water, ID, etc) to carry with me as I ran home from the race, but after my finish I decided I pushed it enough and opted to ride home in my nice warm car. I did pull out an additional 1.89 miles when I got home, though. It brought me to a total of 5 miles today, and just over 400 miles for 2014. Stellar.
Post-PR Happy Dance!
Needless to say, my runner’s high has not quite worn off yet. Overall, a great weekend. Next weekend is my last long training run before the half. I’m very excited, and quite nervous. After my long run I will be participating in a one mile fun run with my son on Mother’s Day. It will be his first official race and I have no expectations to finish the route, but it will be super fun for him to be able to wear a bib and get his own race t-shirt — even if he has to grow into it. 🙂
Have a GREAT week, friends!
