Happy Hug A Runner Day! Whoop whoop!
It’s crunch time, peeps. I’ve got 99 miles to go ’til goal. My fingers are crossed each and every day that I make it.
In the meantime, I’ve been truly struggling with my 2015 race schedule! Gah! Why does this have to be so hard?! I’ve gotten so much awesome advice, particularly to make my first marathon an experience because I’ll never have another first marathon. Truer words were never spoken, friends.
I was texting with my friendly this morning and we were going back and forth about which race to choose and why. She’s a programmer so she pores over thousands of lines of code on spreadsheets every day. I suggested we make a spreadsheet of our proposed races and have a meeting. I think she thought I was joking.
And I totally was… of course.
The stars aligned and I had a nice four mile treadmill run during naptime. Little Man watched Ice Age that we had on our DVR from a couple weeks ago. I got some planking in as well. And somehow I was left completely, 100% alone until my treadmill read: 4.00 mi. Literally. At that moment, Little Bee started crying and my workout was over. But I got ‘er done, it was nice to have a moment’s peace, and I felt great afterward.
Plank it. |
After my run, I snuggled with the kiddos while they finished up the movie.
Post-run, movie-time snuggles. |
And then I did this:
Happy dance! |
I also got my email for the Turkey Trot! I’m super excited. I’m just hoping it’s nowhere near as cold and icy as last year. I came out of that race with some very sore quads from the slip-adjusted gait I acquired while trying to maintain footing and balance. It was quite the experience. I’m looking forward to milder temperatures coming this weekend to hopefully melt all the snow and ice.
Speaking of cold and icy — did you hear about the lake effect snow in Buffalo, NY? Let’s just say I won’t be complaining about lake effect snow here in the CLE anymore. We get it bad but nothing like this!
Yaktrax won’t help you through this one! |
And while we’re on the topic of Yaktrax…! After hearing about them firsthand from a fellow CLE runner, I’m considering picking up a pair. I can handle running in the cold, I just can’t handle the ice. I’m petrified of slipping and falling. The treadmill is doable but truly only up until about 8 miles, and even that’s pushing it. Let’s go with 6. 6 miles I can handle on the treadmill. Anything after that is just kind of torturous. I can manage up to 8, but it’s pretty painful.
Have you had experience with Yaktrax? Pros? Cons?
Have a great day, friends! Stay warm and dry! And don’t forget to hug a runner!
