Happy Hump Day! Hope everyone had a successful — and safe — Cinco de Mayo. I celebrated with a brownie as big as my face. No, I didn’t eat all of it. That would be ridiculous. I just ate most of it… There’s a difference, you know…
To be fair, half of this damage was done by my husband. |
Today I’m reviewing compression sleeves from Compression Sleek. As race season is officially underway, I was grateful when the opportunity to try out new sleeves presented itself. My legs are tired, and once the marathon is over, I plan to ramp up on the speed work.
Upon receiving the Compression Sleek sleeves, I immediately noticed they were lightweight, and had a nice stretch to them. Not all sleeves are created equal. Some are made of a thicker, heavier material which is good for cooler weather. Some are tighter than others, despite all claiming the same calf circumference measurements and the same mmHg ratings. Some are light and not tight at all, which isn’t really beneficial at all. And yet others are perfect for racing — lightweight, not too snug and not too loose.
When I took these out of the packaging and slipped them on I thought to myself, “these will be perfect for summer racing.” Not quite tight enough for recovery, but with just enough give to allow my calves to expand while running. So I took them for a test run. Here’s what I think:
Pros
They go on without any struggle whatsoever. Calf sleeves can be tricky. Sometimes they’re so tight that you’re damn near wrestling with your own feet just to get them on. The Compression Sleek sleeves are tight but not so tight it’s impossible to put them on without a WWF wrestling match.
They are lightweight. Again, I point this out because they will be great for summer racing. I love all my compression sleeves but I can say with certainty that I’ll be wearing these in the warmer months when I need compression.
20-30 mmHg. There are several levels of compression. Compression Sleek sleeves are 20-30 mmHg, which is in the “firm compression” range. The higher the number, the firmer the compression. 20-30 mmHg is just my style…
Excellent customer service. Compression Sleek is so confident in their product that they are willing to buy it back from you if you’re not satisfied. Plus the gentleman I’ve been working with is great. He’s really nice and has answered all of my questions related to the Compression Sleek sleeves.
Cons
They fit me just right. This should be a pro, and it totally is — for me. But my husband is 6’4″ and since the sleeves are unisex, one-size-fits-all, I have to wonder if they would fit him as well. (Note when ordering compression sleeves: For the CS sleeves, one size fits 12″-15″ calf circumference. Be sure to measure your calf before ordering any compression sleeves as this is how they are all measured!)
No color option. You get what you get, and you don’t get upset. At least that’s what they say in Pre-K at my son’s preschool. I would wager to say one might benefit from having more than one color to choose from, but as long as you’re good with black, then color doesn’t matter much.
I wouldn’t wear them for recovery. This is totally just personal preference, but for me, the compression isn’t tight enough for recovery. But I totally love them for running.
Why do I always do ridiculous poses? I dunno. Just seems like the right thing to do. |
Bottom line — would I recommend them to family/friends? I would for sure. I would recommend them to someone new to compression sleeves, or to someone interested in using them for running rather than recovery. They’re not hard to put on/take off, and they’re lightweight and comfortable. Perfect combination.
