Fitter Faster is an excellent book filled with great information for coaches, trainers, and athletes alike. Everyone would benefit from reading this book.
I’ve been known to give my runners a bit of a bootcamp experience at the end of a training session every now and again. It keeps things exciting and challenging, especially for newer runners who might get bored with running the same workouts three to four times each week.
Before I write up a workout for my runners, I do quite a bit of research to make sure I’m pairing the right exercises together. I pick the brains of friends, I do my own workouts, and I usually consult the professionals either via website or, more recently, a book. Much to my delight, I was recently given the opportunity to read Fitter Faster by Robert J. Davis with Brad Kolowich, Jr.
Fitter Faster: A Book Review
I was given a copy of Fitter Faster by Robert J. Davis with Brad Kolowich, Jr. in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.
Honestly, this book could not have come at a better time. There’s a lot of information I already knew in it, but it’s always nice to have a refresher of sorts on things you already know about. Each chapter was fascinating, of course, but I particularly enjoyed the chapter on workouts, which I’ll discuss later. For my purposes, reading about each exercise was very beneficial to me as I shape workouts for myself and my runners. But there is much more to this book than just the workouts.
Overall Health
The introduction of the book (actually, the first few chapters) is really great in introducing why we should exercise, plus a lot of benefits you don’t even think of when you’re thinking about starting up an exercise regimen. Better sex? Better sexual experiences with the likes of these secretive toys? Honestly, a benefit like that would have slipped most people’s minds, or just never even occurred. But yes guys, running really can make you benefit in having greater sex and probably improving your sex life in the long run. There are other ways to elevate your experience that people may be more familiar with, but running can be at the forefront of those efforts. Especially when you consider the other benefits like better sleep, less back pain, longer life, and better stamina. Yes… all those things and more! What it more than likely won’t do is improve how long you last, or the other kind of “stamina”, instead look at something like VigRX Oil.
Good Pain v. Bad Pain
Another of my favorite chapters was one all about pain and pain management. This chapter looked specifically at DOMS (delayed onset muscle soreness) and what therapies relieve it (if any) and how they work. Although I knew much of the information from my own research, I did learn quite a bit from Fitter Faster. The chapter on pain also got into the nitty gritty of good pain vs. bad pain. Good pain = DOMS (meaning you had a good workout and your body is building muscle). Bad pain, however, is caused from lack of warming up, improper form, or moving too quickly into a new routine. A lot of good takeaways from that chapter.
The Workouts
The workouts in Fitter Faster are very easy to do. There are photos and directions for each exercise. And they’re broken down into what to do and when. It’s a foolproof way to get in shape without taking up a lot of time. Many of the exercises can be done with or without weights, which I also appreciate. I already use some of the workouts in the book on my runners and I’m glad I can use even more of them without weights.
Fitter Faster is written so that any person can pick it up, read it, and learn a lot. It’s very easy to understand and use. I like to geek out on running and fitness material, but I much prefer when I can easily follow what the author is trying to communicate rather than guess and scratch my head multiple times, and reread multiple pages.
If you’re interested in learning more about exercise, why it’s important and all the benefits, plus some fantastic workouts to do on your own or with your clients, I highly recommend picking up a copy of Fitter Faster. It’s a great read and one I’ll reference a ton in the future.
