My second week of marathon training is in the books, folks! I’m seriously having so much fun with all my easy running. My coach warned me that we’re about to turn up the heat with my training, so I’m relishing in these easy runs while they last. My easy runs are so chill. They really help rejuvenate me.
Easy Running {Marine Corps Marathon Training: Week 2}
Tuesday — 4th of July! — 5.15 miles
Tuesdays are for trails and tacos. As such, I ran a few trail miles with friends to celebrate the 4th. The weather was really great. We had fun, and when I got home I got to do this with my family:
Yum!
Wednesday — 4.14 miles
Wednesday was a fun run with the pooch. She’s quite the running companion and I’m lucky she loves it so much. She does this really cute thing where if I’m getting my shoes on and she knows she’s coming with me, she stands next to me and let’s out this really quiet, drawn-out whine. It’s like she knows it’s almost time for an adventure with mom and can’t contain her excitement.
Thursday — 6.01 miles
I ran with my girl Eugenia on Thursday. We had a good time and I’m glad we logged some miles together. We talked all about marathon training. MCM will be her first and I’m so excited for her! I can’t think of a better first marathon.
Saturday — 9 miles
The weather last week was truly perfect for running and Saturday was no exception. My friend Carole and I ran 9 miles in our local park. She’s a wonderful story teller and I love hearing what she has to say.
Sunday —Hills for the win! — 2.09 miles
Sundays are for coaching. I had two groups scheduled, plus a new client lined up for Sunday morning. The first group tackled hills. They did great. My second group bailed on me. Yes, all of them. While I waited between groups to meet my new client, I did an abbreviated strength training routine. Thankfully it was abbreviated because my glutes and groin are still sore. I can’t imagine the DOMS had I done a full workout!
I declare last week a huge success. The weather was darn near perfect and it was fun to reconnect with friends and log a few miles with my dog. The current week is my last week of easy running. Soon I’ll be tackling my own hills along with tempo work. Even though I do love easy running, I’m looking forward to changing it up a bit. After all, this marathon isn’t gonna train for itself!
