It’s MCM Race Week! {Marine Corps Marathon Training: Week 16}

October 16, 2017

It’s finally MCM race week and I’m so excited! After months of hard work, the People’s Marathon is mere days away. Oorah!

IT’S MCM RACE WEEK!!! IT’S MCM RACE WEEK!!! IT’S MCM RACE WEEK!!!

I’m not sure if that’s anxiety or excitement but either way — it’s finally MCM RACE WEEK!!!

I just finished my last week of full on training and now I have to organize, pack, and then I’m off to D.C. in a few short days. So much excitement — I can’t wait!

But before I get ahead of myself, here’s how last week’s training went:

It's finally MCM race week and I'm so excited! After months of hard work, the big dance is mere days away.

It’s MCM Race Week! {Marine Corps Marathon Training: Week 16}

Monday — .81 miles

Monday was a super easy day. I met with a client and we did a nice warm-up run together before I gave her a tough workout. The pace was nice and easy and it felt great to shake out my limbs after my long run on Sunday.

Tuesday — 6 miles

Structured fartlek was on the docket for Tuesday. I enjoy running fartleks because I get a chance to run fast without killing myself in the process. There were a couple times I felt like I was struggling but that was due to outside circumstances, not because the run itself was hard.

Wednesday — 7.09 miles

I met up with a friend and we ran a very hilly route on Wednesday. The route was fine by me because I really needed to work on some easy pace running on hills. Unfortunately I put myself into a time crunch because I had an appointment with the chiropractor immediately following our run. We didn’t start until a few minutes after we initially planned, which meant I had to leave my friend and sprint it in to make it on time. The sprinting part was fun, but I felt sad leaving her behind.

Can you tell who loved the hills and who didn’t?

Thursday — 6.02 miles

I had a phenomenal run on Thursday. I ran too fast, though, which was a user-error. I remembered my workout wrong from my training calendar and ran each rep about 10 seconds too fast. Oops! But it felt really great so I’m not complaining.

Friday — strength training

Remember last week when I told you I essentially skipped all strength training? I opted to make a solid effort this week. And let’s face it, I kicked my own ass. But it was much needed. I won’t let myself slack again there. #burpeesfordayz

Saturday — 9 miles — last long run!

A few of us Cleveland MCMers met up for our final long run together. It was so much fun! The only thing of note during this run was that my friend John’s dog was sprayed by a skunk before our run. So if you were downdraft of the pup you were in for a treat. The weather was great, though, and we had a blast. 9 miles felt extremely short and easy after all these weeks of training.

Afterward a few of us went to breakfast and chatted about all our plans in the nation’s capital. It’s going to be a blast!

Looking ahead

This week I’ll be hydrating, packing, and running a few miles. Then it’ll be time to hit the road!

The hay is in the barn and it's almost go time for @Marine_Marathon! #oorah #RunWithTheMarines
