Gerolsteiner Sparkling Detox Challenge

August 11, 2017

Thank you to Gerolsteiner Sparkling Mineral Water for sponsoring this post. All opinions and experiences are my own.

I drink plenty of water. In fact, hydrating during marathon training ranks high among my priorities. Until recently, I was just fine drinking tap water. I honestly knew very little about mineral water. I had heard mineral water was good for you, but I didn’t realize just how good it could be.

What do YOU know about mineral water?

Did you know…
  1. Gerolsteiner Sparkling Mineral Water contains 84 mg of calcium and 26 mg of magnesium per 8 fl oz
  2. Calcium supports the flow of impulses between nerves and muscles, thereby regulating cardiac activity
  3. Calcium is the most important mineral in the human bone structure and in the enamel
  4. Magnesium supports healthy energy metabolism, muscle function, and nervous system function
  5. A liter of Gerolsteiner Sparkling Mineral Water contains more than 1,800 mg of bicarbonate

As you can see, calcium and magnesium are really important minerals for everyone, but also for runners and other active individuals. Recently,  I experienced a major quad cramp and many of you commented that it could have been due to low magnesium. I also had an echocardiogram not too long ago to ensure my heart is functioning as it’s supposed to.

To help regulate my cardiac activity and keep muscle cramps at bay, I plan on working mineral water in after my runs. I’m hopeful by staying hydrated and nourished with essential minerals magnesium and calcium, I’ll avoid any cramps in the future and keep my ticker in strong, ticking order.
