Last week was a good week for running. We had some sunshine (which is SO MISSED — PLEASE COME BACK!) and warm days. Probably too warm for most runners. Perfect for me, though. I took my puppy, Trixie, for a couple miles here and there just to keep her fitness up. She likes running but I need to keep her safe and summer is not the best time to log serious miles with the pupster.
I’ve got some things on my mind, though. I closed out May with 145 miles which definitely makes me happy, but I’ve been in a funk all day and it’s no good. Read on to find out what’s up. Hopefully things will resolve tomorrow. Sorry for the #vagueblogging. Keep reading.
Taper Time: Grandma’s Marathon 2017
Monday — 6 miles
Monday was the University Heights Memorial Day 4-Miler. I won second in my age-group. Read all about it here. 🙂
Wednesday — 7.08 miles
Dog and I went out for 3 miles, then I finished up with another 4. She’s such a funny pup. I wore a new pair of Newtons and I wasn’t too impressed.
Thursday — 9.62 miles
Despite having nice weather and a decent course on Thursday, my legs felt like lead. I blame the new shoes on that. I felt like I had no bounce at all. It was tough.
Saturday — 14 miles
On Saturday I took Trixie for a few miles and then met up with some friends for varying distances. It was nice to have company on the second part of my last double digit run before Grandma’s. The weather was near perfect for me, too. Plenty of sunshine, warm air, and a cool breeze. Just lovely.
So what’s really on my mind? My foot and my IT band. On Saturday after my run, my right arch was on fire. I was in so much pain I could barely walk. I finally decided to stop being brave and take some Advil. Of course there was almost immediate relief. And now my IT band is nagging me. Aside from the 20-Mile Drop, I’ve had no issues. And now all of a sudden, on a rest day no less, it flares up? WHAT IS THAT?! I know taper isn’t usually easy mentally — but physically I should be resting and rejuvenating for my upcoming race. This is ridiculous.
I’m supremely stressed out and pissed off. I really can’t sugarcoat it. I spent all of Monday morning trying to get through to one chiropractor to no avail, so I made an appointment with another one in the afternoon. Hopefully by the time you read this I’ll have some sort of relief, but I was even planning on doing strength training on Monday and opted not to for fear of aggravating my damn IT band.
Gah… it’s always something, isn’t it? Taper should be relaxing, not stressful.
That’s all I got today, friends. I’m grumpy and no one wants to hear more than necessary. Send me some healing vibes, would ya?
xo
