Happy Friday! Today’s topic for the Friday Five 2.0 is “pampering.” Now, I’m not much of a girly girl, so pampering is kind of a hard topic for me to cover. BUT! I’m not one to shy away from a challenge so I’m sticking with the topic this week and I’ll give it my best. Since I have a race coming up on Sunday, of course I’ll be relating all my talking points back to running. A for effort, right? So without further ado, here’s how to pamper yourself during racing season. 🙂
How to Pamper Yourself During Racing Season
1. Keep up with strength training.
Sure, this is completely odd, I’ll admit that. But one way to ensure you stay injury-free and strong is through strength training. Staying injury-free means no PT, no pain, no ridiculous injury-related stuff you’d rather live without. Am I right? I’m firmly in the camp of “strength training as pampering” when it comes to injury prevention. No one wants to be in a boot.
2. Get cozy with the foam roller.
Foam rolling might be a stretch to “pamper yourself,” but I’m putting it in there along with strength training because any way to not be injured is the best way to be pampered. Trust me! Pamper yourself with the foam roller (and get your mind out of the gutter).
3. Nourish your body with good food.
Throughout a training cycle, you’re burning tons of calories and putting your body through the wringer. Every run doesn’t feel hard, but if you’re doing speed work, hill work, or HIIT workouts, your body is working hard. Therefore, there is no better way to pamper yourself than through food during a training cycle. If you nourish your body with good foods, your body will thank you. Fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean proteins, and minimally processed foods are the way to go.

4. Take Epsom salt baths.
Once you get past the stigma of Epsom salts being for old people, an Epsom salt bath is truly a luxurious by-product of a tough training cycle. If your limbs are achy, relax in a nice warm bath. Add the salts and voila! Race pampering at its finest.
5. Get a massage.
After a well-earned race medal, there is truly no better way to pamper yourself than with a massage. Do yourself a favor — schedule a massage before race day. You trained for months. You likely ran through some tears. Then you tore past the finish line. YOU DID IT! Treat yourself for a job well done.
And that, my friends, is how you pamper yourself during racing season. I wish everyone swift feet if you’re racing this weekend, or lots of R&R if you’re not!
