2016 Ultimate Holiday Gift Giving Guide for Athletes
Martina Long Jacket by prAna
The Martina Long Jacket is among the cutest and most functional sporty-fashion jackets I’ve seen in a while. It’s lightweight, weather-resistant, and layerable. It features a hidden, two-way zipper, plus bottom-hem snap to keep the flap closed in windy conditions. Couple those features with the hidden fitted cuffs AND the zip pockets? Fashion absolutely meets function in this piece of adorable outerwear.
The North Face Fleece Neck Gaiter
Do not underestimate the value of a fleece neck gaiter for a runner. I’ve gotten by two winters in a row without one. But with the temperatures already plummeting multiple times, I gifted myself one and it has not disappointed. In fact, it’s made my single-digit runs feel not so bad anymore. I personally adore The North Face neck gaiter. It has a cinch in the back to keep the gaiter close to your face in brutal conditions, which makes it perfect for hiking snowshoeing, skiing, snowboarding, and running.
SOS Rehydrate
SOS Rehydrate makes a wonderful electrolyte drink mix. It tastes great and it works wonders on boosting those electrolytes and keeping you hydrated through a tough workout. Winter, spring, summer, or fall, every athlete needs SOS Rehydrate in their life. The single-serve packets make great stocking stuffers!
Orange Mud Endurance Pack
Speaking of hydration… your athlete probably needs something to carry their water on long runs, hikes, or rides. The Endurance Pack by Orange Mud is perfect for activities of long duration. The pack holds a HydraPak 2L bladder with quick disconnect. With three separate compartments in the back, plus shoulder and front chest pocket storage, you can take this pack on short day hikes with the family or long endurance runs. It’s suited for all sorts of activity and all types of athletes.
Nike Shield Running Jacket
I mentioned my allegiance to the Nike Shield running jacket before — and after many more runs in it since that post, this still holds true. I’ve now run in it in varying weather — dry, wet, in the 30s and now in single digits. I have been more than impressed with this piece of fabric perfection and I highly recommend anyone looking for a new running jacket to put this one on their short list. The Nike Shield Running Jacket is nothing to scoff at and everything to admire in a well-made piece of running apparel.
Fartlek Running Company Trucker Hat
“Run and be happy.” A motto everyone should live by. Get a wearable version of this motto in the form of a trucker hat from the Fartlek Running Company. The best part of purchasing from the Fartlek Running Company? A portion of every sale goes to a non-profit. How cool is that?
Square
Everyone needs an awesome water bottle/fruit infuser in their life, right? Square by Clean Bottle is a revolutionary water bottle. It opens on both ends for easy cleaning. There’s an option to add a fruit-infuser if that’s your style of hydration. Plus it’s square shaped so as not to roll around if it finds itself tipped or fallen over.
Legend Compression Sleeves
If you’re a runner, know a runner, are married to a runner, or has any involvement with a runner — you know there are bound to be aches and pains along the way. One of the best ways to combat aches and pains is through the use of compression. Lucky for us there’s a plethora of compression widely available on the market today. Among my faves are compression sleeves from Legend Compression Wear. Their sleeves are light and breathable, but still offer the unmistakable “hug” found only in true compression wear. Plus they come in fun colors, too!
I hope you find something amazing for the athlete in your life. There are lots of things to choose from in the wide world of athletic and fitness equipment and accessories. These happen to be some of my faves — they’ve treated me well and I wouldn’t recommend them otherwise.
Happy holidays!
