Half Marathon Training: Week 5

March 15, 2016

I feel like I had a pretty awesome week last week, you guys. In the words of my son, “way much better” than the week before, that’s for sure! The weather was fantastic, and I got some pretty great runs in. I didn’t hit every workout as planned but I got the mileage in.

Here’s how my week went:

Tuesday – 6.38 miles

The goal for Tuesday was to run strides. Yeah, that didn’t quite happen. I ran with Julie, though, and she kept me on my toes. We ran 4 miles together and then later in the afternoon, because the weather was so awesome, I ran again with my daughter in the stroller. Good times!

Wednesday – 3 miles

Wednesday was supposed to be a tempo run but for whatever reason, I couldn’t do it. I mean, I had negative splits and all, but I just couldn’t get into the tempo rhythm. I think it’s because I’ve been on the treadmill so much lately.

Sometimes a sunrise is so beautiful it stops you mid-run and begs you to take a picture.

But the weather was just gorgeous. And I mean, picture perfect. The sunrise is just beautiful, guys. It stops me in my tracks at times. It did on Wednesday, for sure.

Friday – 4 miles

Friday was much cooler than Wednesday (it rained all day on Thursday), which was kind of a bummer because I’m so ready to put away cold weather running gear. But despite that, I had a good run and even achieved even splits. I was pretty proud of myself. It was nice prep work for my race on Sunday.

Saturday – 3.26 miles

I met up with my friend Noemi, and it was probably one of the best runs I’ve had in a while. It did me a lot of good to go running with a friend on a beautiful sunny morning. The fresh air and the run helped clear my mind. Plus, I really treasure the runs I have with my friends. It’s such sacred bonding time, even if you don’t think much of it at the time. (Side note, Noemi is moving away in a few months and I’m so super duper sad!)

After my run with Noemi, I headed to the running store to pick up my packet for my race on Sunday. I also treated myself to a little retail therapy to help soothe my soul and got this rad shirt:

Sunday – Race Day! – 6.2 miles

I’m not going to get into my race here because I’m going to give it a proper recap tomorrow. But let’s just say, it was a super fun day and I’m really pleased with my effort and results. Here’s a sneak peek of tomorrow:

Plus, first 10K and all that. Holla!

This week my coach is increasing my mileage. I hope I can keep up with it. And I only say that because of the time change. Last week it was bright starting around 6:20 am. Now it’s back to being dark until 7:30 am. Bah humbug. I can’t wait until the days are long and the nights are short. Bring it on, summer! I also have a follow up PT appointment, so I’ll be reporting back on that in my next recap post.

Looking forward to long days + short nights - is it summer yet? #runchat #halfmarathon #training
