Training Recap: It’s a New Year!

January 5, 2016
I had a much, much better week of running last week. I was so happy to have hit all my mileage targets, plus pacing targets as well. It was a much needed mental boost after the week before. My husband took the week off from work so I didn’t have to wake up at the crack of dawn to run in the dark, which made it infinitely easier to be motivated to run.
Tuesday — 4.23 miles (hills!)
Tuesday was hill day, and it was awesome! I met up with some lovely ladies for some hill work. It wasn’t on their training plans but it was on mine, so I thought I’d take them along for the ride. It ended up being a tough workout but tons of fun.
We eat hills for breakfast!
Or they eat us. Either way.
Done and done!

Wednesday — 4 miles
4 miles on Wednesday were tough. Hill Day really rocked my bod. I was supposed to run the hills for form but apparently it’s a big area where I need to improve my strength.
Thursday — 6 miles
Thursday was tough. I was experiencing major DOMS (delayed onset muscle soreness) from hill day. How could hills haunt me all week?! The terrain I run day in and day out is anything but flat. It’s amazing what muscle memory can do on my day-to-day runs but is completely tested when I work on hill repeats. My coach and I discussed it and as punishment, I’ll be working on hills for the next three weeks.
Last run of 2015!

NYE run!
Saturday — 8 miles
I had a wonderful run on Saturday. It was much needed, too. My last “long” run was when I came down with whatever weird illness I had. I felt lethargic, heavy, and just counted down the miles until the run was over. But this run was completely different. I felt great!
I met Julie at a not-too-early hour. This time it was her turn to not feel well. She started the run with a sore throat, but by the end of the run she was cleared up a bit. ‘Tis the season, I suppose. We had a nice time. We didn’t run too fast, didn’t run too slow. Everything was just right.  I have a lot of goals for the new year, so I was happy I could start it on the right foot (pun intended).
This week I’m working on hills again. Except it’s gonna be dark and frigid so I might have to keep it indoors for a day or so. Looking forward to meeting up with some friends this weekend for a long run together — we haven’t had a group run in quite some time so it should be a lot of fun!
I hope you have a great week, friends!
