5 Ways I’m Staying Sane [Through Recovery]

January 29, 2016
Laying low throughout an injury and subsequent recovery is tough. It’s mentally taxing. To switch from one activity to taking time off to rest and then finding a new activity can be physically challenging, too. It’s enough to make a person go cuckoo. How have I managed to hold myself together? By valuing the little things in life. Like…
1. Roses.
It’s no secret that I’m obsessed with my new favorite INKnBURN design, roses. It’s so beautiful. Words can’t even describe it. Ever since I was little I loved everything flowers and rainbows. My BFF and I would color each other pictures (yes, even through high school, don’t judge) and my pictures for her always included a daisy and a rainbow.

Look at all the beautiful rainbows and flowers! Ahhhhh! (Insert operatic singing voice here.)
2. These guys.
Cycling is one of my least favorite activities. But I’m learning to embrace it. Especially because I like to cycle with this crew:
CTX Crew. Word.
3. Working on my new site.
Yeah. Well. This has been a huge headache. But from the design side, it’s been amazing! I love creating and designing and I feel fulfilled that it’s finally my turn to design something beautiful for myself. So long as the tech side of it works out, I should have a revamped site for you to see in no time.
4. Planking.
My plank challenge has been keeping me busy for 18 days now. I can’t believe I’ve been planking for so long. Seems kinda ridiculous. And I’m not even planking for very long! Hopefully I’ll break the two minute barrier soon but until then, it’s all about form.
See? Roses. 🙂
5. Coaching.
You’d think with my lack of running and training I would be pretty bummed about training others. Think again! It’s been anything but a bummer! I live vicariously through my athletes. Plus I’m testing out a new training platform. Working through the kinks and figuring out what I’m doing has been a challenge but so far I’m loving it, and I think my clients are, too!
Hopefully you won’t ever become injured and forced to take time off your favorite sport. But if you do, pick a few random and inconsequential things to enjoy in your life and you’ll make it through recovery in no time!
Hope you have a fabulous weekend. Don’t forget to enter to win a comped entry into the Cleveland Marathon! The giveaway is open until February 2nd.
