Last week’s training was really not good. It’s a rarity when I have a bad attitude toward training so it had to have been pretty bad. I missed a workout, I really haven’t been feeling good, and the weather is kind of a drag. (This intro is really making you want to read more, isn’t it? Ha ha!)
Here’s how my lackluster week went:
Tuesday — missed run
I was supposed to run 4 miles on Tuesday. Did I? Nope. It was pouring down rain, I was exhausted. It was a no go. I thought I’d make it up over the weekend because of the holiday and having more “free” time. Never trust a “later in the week” deal with yourself. It won’t happen. Just do it now.
Wednesday — 5.3 miles
I met up with my girls, Noemi and Julie, and we ran a nice 5-miler together. It was fun to be out with my friends at o’dark thirty. We had fun with headlamps and railcar tracks. #donttrythisathome #especiallyduringrushhour
Thursday — Christmas Eve Day! — 5.53 miles
I woke up on Christmas Eve morning feeling fairly tired. I wrote it off as being woken up by Little Bee at all hours of the night. Julie and I were planning on 6 miles on Christmas Eve in preparation for all the food eating that was sure to ensue over the next few days.
I got out of bed, checked the weather (50˚!), and got dressed. She came to pick me up and dressing as festively as we could, of course had to have our photo taken by the Christmas tree. It wouldn’t be a holiday run without holiday themed attire. Am I right?

We got to the park where it was much colder than the Weather app declared. I was wearing shorts, a long sleeve shirt, and calf sleeves. No gloves, no arm sleeves, no double layers on top. I was also donning my new Buff to keep my neck warm. As it turns out, I really should have had an added layer on top and not worn the calf sleeves. Our route was fairly hilly and I felt the sleeves were too constrictive. They basically made me feel like I was dragging a$$. As it turns out, I would remain motionless in bed for almost half the day so I’m thinking now it was less the calf sleeves and more the fatigue that made me feel like I was dragging.
In any event, the run sucked. It was cold (but also hot?) and I just felt like doodles. At the time I didn’t realize it, but I’m fairly certain I came down with some sort of weird bug on Christmas Eve because I had no appetite for another three days.
We finished the run and headed home. I promptly took a very hot shower, got in bed, and napped for several hours.
After my nap, I finished wrapping some gifts for the little folks who run my house, and then got back in bed.
Sunday — 4 miles
After taking a few days off, Julie and I met up again for another run. This time we were planning on 7 miles. Unfortunately it was pouring rain! Gah, this weather. I was finally feeling well enough to run more than a handful of miles but by the time we got to 2 miles, I was a little chilly and Julie was drenched. We decided to call it and we turned back toward our cars. I felt great during my run and immediately after, but about an hour later I was very tired again. I’m not too broken up about it since I’m not technically in training for anything yet, but it’s still a bummer to not complete workouts. Between not feeling well and this rain, running is becoming quite the chore these days!

This week should be fun. My coach has a lot of awesome workouts on my schedule and as more time passes, I’m sure I’ll begin feeling better and better. We aren’t supposed to get any sun until January 5th, though, so that’s kinda bumming me out. Fingers crossed El Nino will send some our way sooner rather than later.
Here’s hoping my last training week of 2015 is better than the second to last week. 🙂
