2015 Half Marathon Training: Week 3

July 14, 2015
I changed the name to this series of training. And here’s why. I’m technically training for two half marathons. One is in August, and the other’s in October. So really this is just one training cycle. And for the sake of record-keeping for future reference, I didn’t want to confuse myself when I look back on what I was doing… so, this training cycle will now be known as “2015 Half Marathon Training.” 🙂
I love giving you superfluous information. You’re welcome.
I honestly feel like my world is turning upside down. We are in the throes of closing a deal on a new home, and it’s been so darn nerve-racking. My anxiety level is seriously through the roof. As such, I’ve taken to my ultimate stress-relief activity: running. Anxiety + training = serious miles and serious speed. Here’s how it went:
Sunday — yoga

I was super tired on Sunday. I was technically supposed to run 3 miles, but I just wanted to chill. After our 4th of July celebration the day before, I was ready for some relaxing.
Monday — 3 miles

I ran my 3 shake-out miles on Monday instead. These were relaxed, easy miles. No pressure to perform. Just a leisurely run. I felt pretty good.

Wednesday — 2.29 miles (failed attempt at tempo) + strength training

Remember this post? Yeah. That happened last Wednesday. It sucked. I was super bummed. If you didn’t read that post, I basically had a great run going and then all of a sudden — BAM! — my right IT band started bugging me again. I sulked home. But after resting for several hours, I had a great strength session in the evening. I felt better after that.

Friday — 4 miles (tempo = success!)

I didn’t want Wednesday to win, so I went back to the track for a tempo redux. And I rocked it. I ran with Julie. She’s faster than me so my tempo pace is more like her conversation pace. It worked out because I just made her talk most of the time while I listened. That’s what friends are for, right? 🙂 It was a really fun run. The track that we ran on is super springy, and it felt a little strange running on roads on my way home. I can’t wait to go back!

Saturday — 8.06 miles + strength training

Saturday was great! I met up with David for 6 miles. Noemi briefly considered meeting up with us but had a rough night with her daughter (i.e. no sleep). It turns out 6 miles is much farther than I remembered, especially because we were running on the path we did quite often throughout marathon training. When we got to mile 3, I was all like, “seriously?! We’ve only run 3 miles?!” And David was all like, “uh, yeah…”
I was meeting up with the 5K training group the same morning, and when we were still about a mile and a half out, I realized I was late. We picked it up for the last part of our run, and it was actually kinda fun. David’s fast when he wants to be, so it was a challenge to keep up, that’s for sure. I’m pretty sure he slows way down when he’s running with me. But I’m thankful that my friends do that, otherwise I think I would be “Running on Lonely” and not “Running on Happy.”
Noemi met up with me for the 5K training run, which I’ll talk more about later this week. But for now, I’ll leave you with David trying to run away with Noemi’s daughter in the stroller…
Have a great day, friends!
xo
If you’re a mama, do you run with the stroller, or is your exercise-time sacred — no kids allowed?
If you’re training for a fall race, how’s it going? Ups? Downs? Highs? Lows?
And just for good measure, I’m linking up with My No-Guilt Life, Run The Great Wide Somewhere, and MCM Mama Runs for Tuesdays on the Run! I’ve always wanted to do this link-up and I have no idea why it’s taken me until now to join it… thanks for having me. 🙂
