National Running Day

June 3, 2015

June 2017 note: This is an old post but is still very relevant to me today. Happy Global Running Day. 🙂

Happy National Running Day!

Since it’s the greatest made up holiday ever, I want to talk to you briefly about why people run. More specifically, me — why I run. I’m actually going to give you a synopsis of my running journey — from the beginning until now. Maybe some of my reflections will sound familiar to you. Or perhaps they will encourage you to start running — today. My hope is that my path will positively impact and influence others to begin their own journey. Running changes everything.

2010

I ran to lose weight from my first baby.

I ran to have a healthy heart.

I ran because I felt connected to my parents and grandparents.

I ran because I liked the challenge.

2011

I ran because I wanted to go faster.

I ran to be able to eat otherwise unhealthy foods. (NOT a valid excuse, by the way!)

2012

I ran because I wanted to meet a new challenge of 1,000 miles.

I ran/walked because I became pregnant.

2013

I ran because I wanted my baby to be healthy.

I ran because I wanted to be able to continue my fitness and running after my baby was born.

2014

I ran to compete.

I ran to be fast.

I ran because I loved the wind in my hair.

I ran because I loved loud music.

I ran because it was much needed alone time.

2015 (and beyond)

I run to train.

I run to accomplish goals.

I run to make me happy.

I run to be a positive role model for my kids.

I run because I love it.

It’s amazing how much my running has changed over time. What started as a simple venture to lose some weight, I’ve now morphed into this person that absolutely loves running. It has truly been a life changing experience. I’m proof of that.

Whatever you do — CrossFit, yoga, walking, swimming — go out for a quick run today. Celebrate National Running Day. What do you have to lose?

Happy Trails, friends.

xo

Has running changed YOUR life? How? (Give me 3!)
