Marathon Training Recap: Week 3

February 3, 2015
Marathon training went well last week. With my long run two Sundays ago at a much slower pace, I realized I need to train smarter, definitely not harder. I’ve since slowed down my pace significantly, and I found this week to be much easier than the previous two. Coincidentally, it was also my setback week but I have been feeling fatigued midweek as opposed to just the long run, so I don’t think my shorter long run had much to do with that.
Last Sunday was yoga day, followed by rest day on Monday. I’ve stepped up my yoga game this training cycle by incorporating a few different videos as opposed to just the same one on repeat. I’m counting on this to help strengthen my core and stretch meaningfully, and hopefully avoid injury.

Tuesday was an easy 3 miles. Wednesday was a 5 mile pace run, which I ran at my target pace of just under 10 min/mile. Thursday was another 3 mile day along with light weight training at the end of my run.
All in all, things have been going well. I’m a little nervous because my long runs become much more serious going forward (11 this coming weekend). Sh*t’s about to get real, I guess!

In other news, I’ve got major cabin fever. I keep hatching these schemes to get the heck out of the snow-belt for even just a couple days, but my husband doesn’t share my enthusiasm. We had a decent amount of snow fall on Super Bowl Sunday. We watched the Lego Movie with Boo while Little Bee napped. After that, the boys played outside for a little bit, and then we watched Frozen as a family. Everyone really enjoyed it despite Boo’s protests that “it’s for girls!” (Did I mention I took him to see it in the theater when it first came out and he loved it?)

Speaking of girl stuff, did ya catch that #likeagirl Super Bowl commercial from Always? I admit it — I run like a girl. And I’m darn proud of it!

Me: running like a girl! #likeagirl

Monday was a snow day. I made some awesome Cherry Almond Breakfast cookies, we played and read books, and had a protein-packed lunch. Boo even got to watch Lego Movie again during Little Bee’s naptime. Score!

Buddies!

Hoping the snow quits soon. Boo needs to play with friends and get out of the house, and I’ve got 11 miles on the agenda for this weekend. Can’t run in snow shoes!

Week 4 of marathon training, here I come! Bring it!

Have a great day!

xo

Did you have a snow day on Monday?
What did you do to keep busy?
