TURD, Giveaways, and a Game

April 24, 2014
Today is a a TURD for me. And what I mean by TURD is “Totally Unplanned Rest Day.” An old friend taught me that one. I like it.
As a runner, and a runner training for a big race, most of us use some sort of a training schedule. Whether it be a free one from a friend, or maybe a Hal Higdon training schedule, or perhaps even one you’ve paid to use and get expert feedback in return. But there are some days that no matter where you are in training, no matter what you’re “supposed to do” for that day, you just need a break. Today is that day for me.
I’ve been training hard for two races in a row, with very little down time in between. I know, I know. Lots of people train much harder than I do year round, but this is big for me. My next big “long run” will be the farthest I’ve ever run in my life. And from there on out, I will be running farther and farther. I keep joking that I may be ready to sign up for a marathon, or sometimes I joke that I will never, ever run a marathon, but we’ll see which side of the argument I truly end up on after I complete my first half marathon. Ah, nerves!!! Here they come again…
This week I’ve only run 8 miles so far. I am scheduled to run 14-15 more in the next three days alone. It’s exhausting, I tell ya! My knee was bugging me yesterday for a minute during my run, and then later in the day I found it a little difficult to go up and down the stairs. When the knees say, “take a break!” you know I’ll be taking a break! We will see if I complete my speed work for the week or if I just take it easy. I’ll let you know how that goes tomorrow. 😉
So? Have you guys been entering to win my first ever GIVEAWAY???! If not, what the heck are you waiting for?! Listen, the Motivate Wrap bracelet isn’t just for runners. In fact, the owner had the inspiration for them while she was planking. Hello?! That’s the total opposite of running! If you need an extra boost of motivation, or feel like giving one as a gift, enter the GIVEAWAY! And then purchase additional bracelets as gifts for the lovely ladies in your life. 🙂
And don’t forget about this giveaway by For Two Fitness! So much free stuff, so little time!
On a completely unrelated note to sports or running, my little girl is four days away from being 10 months old. Sure, she’s not 1 year old yet or anything, but this little monster is crawling everywhere, testing boundaries, touching electric outlets, and giving me a run for my money. I forgot how insane curious little beings were. It’s exhausting! Maybe that’s why I needed a rest day today… Interesting.
Don’t let the cuteness fool you. She’s a crazy girl!

I have recently come across what looks to be like a fun game on a few other blogs. Let’s call it the “Ask the Blogger Game!” You can ask me anything. Personal, running related, professional, etc. You can submit your questions via email to [email protected], post them on the Facebook page, private message me on Facebook, tweet them (be sure to use #runningonhappy), or leave your question(s) in the comments below. I may not answer every single question but I’ll try to answer as many as possible. It will be fun to see what you want to know. 😉 Ask away, my friends!
Have a glorious day, and I’ll catch you tomorrow. Ciao!

What’s your favorite song?
How is your weather lately? Mine has been cold (again). Sigh…
