Product Review: Honey Stinger Kids!

April 9, 2014

Today’s review is brought to you by Honey Stinger. I’m really excited for this review, actually. It affects not only me, but my family as well.

And, as always, transparency: I received these products to test out and review directly from Honey Stinger. I did not purchase these items on my own.

The nice folks over at Honey Stinger provided us with samples of their new Kids’ Organic Chews and Kids’ Organic Waffles.

Honey Stinger Kids’ Organic Waffles

Out of the organic waffles, we tried the chocolate and honey flavors. In the words of my little Boo:

Chocolate: “I like it.”

Honey: “This one is even more good. It’s so yummy and delicious!”

There you have it, folks. Truer words have never been spoken. The kid is a sucker for anything chocolate so the fact that honey made such an impression definitely means they are delicious. Let me be clear — he loved both. And would have eaten all of them had I let him. Unfortunately for him, this mama wanted to try them out, too.

In my humble opinion (which, does it really matter given my kid’s review?)…

Chocolate: “It was good but not my favorite.”

Honey: “This one is the true winner of the two!”

Like mother, like son?

The texture was surprisingly amazing. As I mentioned, I haven’t had the adult version of the waffles so I can’t speak to that comparison, but they were really yummy. They didn’t crumble at all. In fact, there is a nice layer of chewiness on the inside. Almost like a soft-baked chocolate chip cookie. Nice and firm on the outside, a little chewy on the inside. Delicious.

The organic waffles have no artificial colors or flavors, no preservatives, no high fructose corn syrup, and no trans fats or hydrogenated oils. They are USDA certified organic.

At only 80 calories per waffle, this is both good and bad. As a stand alone snack for my little man, they don’t have enough nutritional punch. As a small pick-me-up during strenuous activity like playing outside, soccer, or t-ball, they would most certainly do the trick.

Honey Stinger Kids’ Organic Chews

Again, I haven’t had the adult version of the chews to compare these to but they were tasty. I didn’t get actual quotes from my son on these because he tried them when we were playing outside (i.e. he was running around and completely ignoring anything I said). However, he does love fruit snacks, and these hit the spot. Organic fruit snacks or chews tend to be a little firmer than conventional ones, so the texture was just a bit different. To the average consumer I would say the difference is unnoticeable.

We tried out the Sour Citrus and Mixed Berry flavors. Out of the two I would say I prefer Mixed Berry, but to be honest, both were very good.

Again, the chews are USDA certified organic and certified gluten-free. They contain no artificial anything, no preservatives, no HFCS, and no trans fats. These tasty treats clock in at 70 calories per bag. Not much for a full snack, but a nice addition to a lunch box or mid-activity refuel.

Bottom line — would I buy Honey Stinger Kids’ Waffles or Chews at the store? Yes, definitely. I would more likely purchase the chews. Would I recommend them to a friend? For sure. What I love the most about them is that they are organic. Not many snacks or treats marketed to kids are organic these days, so the more options to choose from the better. I don’t love giving my kids sugary snacks often, so when I do I want to make sure they are the best option available.

Thank you, Honey Stinger, for giving us the opportunity to taste, test, and review your new kids line! Yum!
