Happy birthday to my biggest bro! Today this influential guy turns 41. I can’t believe it. How can I have a 41 year old brother when I’m still only 17? Seems strange, no? 😉 Hope you have an awesome day, bro!
I have more great news. Besides birthdays, I work on a daily basis trying to convince some innocent sane person to join me in the insanity of running. And guess what?! This time it WORKED! I have officially somehow convinced my husband to join me in a 5K in May! We will be running the Fleet Feet 5K. He has always somehow ended up running odd races with me, even when he hasn’t wanted to, but this is the first time he actually made the conscious decision himself! I’m so excited.
To be fair, the races he has run have included the Turkey Trot in Mesa, AZ (2 miles), two The Race races on Mother’s Day (1 mile), and he signed up for the Color Run (5K) but we didn’t actually end up running it because of a torrential downpour. He has definitely put forth more effort than most husbands when it comes to rooting on his wife. Instead of just standing on the sidelines, he has actually done the races with me. 🙂
The 5K will be his longest race. And although he usually hangs back with me on the rare occasions we have run together, this time he will run for himself. I wish our strides were even a touch more equal so we could race and train together, but unfortunately I picked a really tall guy with extremely long legs, and he picked a really short girl with short legs. So at 6’4″ and 5’1″ respectively, staying around the same pace will be virtually impossible. I don’t care much about that — I’m just super excited to be able to talk “shop” with someone in my house besides my 4.5 year old. And to his credit, Boo is genuinely interested in what I have to say about running, so it really hasn’t been all that bad. 🙂
This week was supposed to be my off week after my 10-miler. I don’t know what the heck happened but somehow this has not been an off week at all. I haven’t run much but I did up my pace a tad so I could improve on time for the half, and I did some leg work on Thursday and I’ve been sore for two days now. My goal is to improve overall fitness and speed so hopefully all the hard work will pay off in the end.
I better go sign us up for the Fleet Feet 5K! Have an awesome day, friends!
