Training Recap: Setback Week

February 25, 2014
Hey friends! Well, it’s another glorious winter day here in Cleveland…
{insert crickets here}

Why does this keep happening?!
Have you ever been so excited about so many things at once that you felt like your head was going to explode? That’s kind of where I am today. I need to really turn that off and channel it into something productive for a few minutes. I’ll focus on a training recap.
Last week was a tough week. It was tough in the sense that I felt like I was running all day, every day. But it actually felt really great at the same time. I think I topped out at about 25 miles, give or take a quarter mile or so. It was nice. I think about the folks training for marathons right now, and I give these ladies and fellas a LOT of props. And I mean a lot. 26.2 is no joke. I covered 25 over a period of seven days. I can’t imagine more than that in just a few short hours!
My last long run was eight miles on Sunday. I think having tackled eight more than once allowed me to be a lot less jittery and nervous throughout the run. The first time I conquered that many miles at once I was really nervous. Not sure why. It’s not like you’re not allowed to stop. But if you’re a runner, or any athlete, you know what I mean. It’s like we put this pressure on ourselves to always perform at the top of our game. Walking is not an option. (But it really is, when it comes down to it.)
I didn’t have my beans with me for this run, and oddly enough, I think that kinda helped. I’ve been practicing with fuel for the big day, but I honestly don’t think I will need it. At least I know I can hold it down, just in case.
This week is my “setback” week. I’m scheduled for 17-22 miles. I am very much looking forward to it. I put in two miles yesterday, and today was supposed to be my cross training day, but I decided to take a rest day instead. I think I deserve it. I’m not sure if I will push forward with the full 22, but we will see.
A couple of my friends started the first of three races for the Louisville Triple Crown of Running this past weekend. From the reports they were posting, the traffic and parking was a nightmare! It was the Anthem 5k, which apparently changed location kind of at the last minute. The photos they posted were awesome, though, and I so wished I had been there! I am really stoked to join them for the last leg of the Triple Crown series!
Lots of big things happening here, friends. I’m working as much as I can while my baby naps and my big boy is at school in the mornings. Unfortunately there really isn’t enough time in the day to finish all of the projects that I’m working on at one time. I know I’m being vague but just know that soon all will be revealed! I hope…
Have a great day!!
