Half Marathon Training

January 11, 2012
Today has been a MUCH better day so far. My husband and I discussed last night that I just need a break. I need a break from yelling, taking care of our toddler, and just a general stress-relief day. One day a week, I get the day to myself. I think I’m going to like this new schedule.
This morning, hubs and Boo went to the Cleveland Museum of Natural History. They had a blast! They did everything that Boo and I normally do, but it was especially exciting (for me) because I wasn’t there. Win!
I took advantage of my day off. I woke up and had a nice 3 mile run, a warm shower, and then I took our lab/husky mix for a long overdue walk in the park. It was great. We started off at the Cleveland Metroparks Polo Fields (home of the Hunter Jumper Classic) but there was a creepy guy in restaurant attire just getting out of his car, so I decided to bail. Big dog or not, I don’t like creepy men.
We instead found ourselves instead on the beautiful trails in the city park of Beachwood. It was a bit chilly, and a little muddy, but Daisy had a blast and so did I. It was great getting out, breathing in some fresh air and giving my sweet puppy a nice walk outside. It was also great to be able to take advantage of a nice January day — unheard of in Cleveland. In any event, it was a successful morning for all.
I also made the executive decision that I will be running the half marathon event this May in the Rite Aid Cleveland Marathon. I am totally stoked. Although I only ran 3 miles this morning, I’m including that as Day 1 of official half marathon training. The farthest I’ve ever run is 6 miles, but with a strict training schedule and an eye on the prize (figuratively, of course), I know I will be able to accomplish my goal. I’m very happy to have a solid plan and an important goal to work toward.
I think I’ve been struggling with trying to find something to focus my energy on, and it was developing into a weird downward spiral of chaos. I’m glad to be back on track. I’m much more focused and excited and in a word, optimistic, now that I set a goal and had a morning to myself. I’m really excited and I can’t wait to see how far I really can go. Should be interesting to say the least. Wish me luck!
Let the training begin!
