Naptime

March 15, 2010
Why do babies have such a hard time napping? My god. It’s ridiculous. If you’re tired and you’re rubbing your eyes, go to sleep!
I think I’ve mentioned it before that my baby is a great sleeper. Was a great sleeper. Maybe it’s the time change, I don’t know. I don’t think it is, though, because he’s still getting the same amount and going down at the same times each day. He slept for one hour longer on Sunday and somehow shifted his time to coincide with daylight savings. I don’t get it.
My husband thinks the baby is getting his teeth in. I don’t think that’s it either, though. I don’t see anything and I’ve felt his gums and they feel the same.
So what is it?
This morning started like any other morning. Baby wakes up, eats, plays, naps. But for some reason, this morning was different. Naptime came and went. We were struggling for over an hour for a nap. He wouldn’t settle down. And when he would settle down, he would start back up screaming, crying and kicking less than two minutes later. We tried the swing, we tried a bottle, we tried rocking, we tried singing. Nothing worked. I finally gave in and put him back in the swing and started this blog. I put him down for his nap at 8:50 a.m. He just fell asleep and it’s 10:07 a.m.
I’m not sure what it was this time. He couldn’t get comfortable, perhaps? Or just didn’t want to be in his room by himself? Who knows. All I know is that if he didn’t pass out when he did, he was about to be sleeping in the garage (kidding, kidding)!
Whatever the case was this morning, I’m glad it’s over. I hope his next nap is a bit less uneventful. It would do wonders for my quickly graying hair.
And seriously… if you’re tired, go to sleep!
