Today is the last Running Coaches’ Corner linkup of 2016.
I totally love the last week of a year. I find it so fun to travel down memory lane and reread all my blog posts and look through the photos of the past year. As it always goes with blogging, I had an entirely different topic on deck for today. But when it came down to type it up and fine tune my thoughts, I realized it wasn’t a good fit for this week. Instead, I’m pushing right through to the end of this week with recaps, reviews, best of’s — the whole shebang.
In honor of this being the last Running Coaches’ Corner linkup of this year, I’m recapping the top 7 posts of RCC in 2016.
Top 7 Running Coaches’ Corner Linkup Posts of 2016
1. Carb Depletion and Loading
Back in October I gave a brief and general overview of Carb Depletion and Loading, and how it can benefit runners by training our bodies to run in a fat-adapted state. There are many schools of thought on this topic in particular, which is why this post was so popular with so many people. I loved reading everyone’s comments and it was really interesting to hear different points of view. Look for more of these types of posts in 2017.
2. Race Memes
My post “What I Tell My Runners Before a Race… in Memes” was a huge hit. I think a lot of people could relate to so many of the memes. Obviously this is what made it so fitting and hilarious. I know I get a chuckle every time I see a good race meme!
3. Writing Training Plans
I wanted to give a different look into the world of coaching with my post How This Coach Writes Training Plans. This article in particular garnered a lot of attention across all my social channels. I think it was due in large part to the fact that not a lot of coaches really share how they write plans for clients. It was helpful for many people to see the amount of work and insight that goes into creating a training plan for each individual. Running coaches take a lot of time to get to know you, your motivations and goals, and how you are as a runner. I think this one helped a lot of people see that.
4. Strength and Conditioning
Perfect Your Running with Strength Work was a hit due to the nature of the content. Every runner needs to incorporate strength work. There’s no such thing as being too strong when it comes to running especially in the running muscle area. Plus there was a giveaway in tandem with the post. An added bonus!
5. Long Run Fueling
Ever the hot topic for any runner is Long Run Fueling. Learning timing, types of fuels, and how they work with our bodies is of utmost importance when training for a long distance race. Finding the right balance could make your race day dreams come true. But if you don’t practice through training, you won’t find the magic.
6. ART, Graston, and Cupping
I’ve been through the ringer when it comes to alternative therapies. And I highly recommend them. In my post about ART, Graston, and Cupping, I summed up each technique, what it’s used for, and overall effectiveness. Speaking of ART and Graston, it’s about time I made an appointment with my chiropractor.
7. Advice for New Runners
One of my favorite posts of the year was So You Want to Be a Runner? Advice for New Runners. I worked with a bunch of awesome bloggers on this one to curate an easy, go-to list for new runners (and veteran runners looking to come back after an extended break). This list is full of advice and words of wisdom. Be sure to check it out!
2016 was a great year for coaching and for the Running Coaches’ Corner linkup. Huge thanks to my co-hosts for taking a chance on my idea and helping to make this such a phenomenal linkup. It’s been really fun and I’ve learned so much from everyone who’s interacted with this Wednesday staple.
If you’re a reader but not a linker, don’t be shy. As you can see from the success of this linkup, it’s not all about coaching. It’s about the running experience from all aspects and we welcome and encourage your posts.
Thanks again for a great first year of the Running Coaches’ Corner linkup. We’ll see you in 2017!
