Happy Thursday, y’all! Let the countdown to the holidays continue! Just two more sleeps until Chanukah begins and it’s Christmas Eve!
Today I have a super fun review for you. Because… quilts!! A little background before we begin:
- I am moderately obsessed with fleece. It can be a blanket, a shirt, a beanie, gloves — it really doesn’t matter. If it’s fleece, I want it.
- I am equally obsessed with holding onto material objects that bring back a rush of memories and emotion when I look at or touch said objects.
Which is why todays’ review is so exciting to me.

Project Repat T-Shirt Quilt Review
If you don’t know what Project Repat is, here’s a quick overview: You pick a size of quilt you want, you send in your old t-shirts, they cut, stitch, and sew it to a fleece backing — and voila! A beautiful quilt is returned to you featuring all of your faves. If you’re feeling particularly crafty though, you could always make a t shirt blanket yourself. Memory Stitch’s website has a handy guide on how to make one yourself. But that isn’t for everyone.
Confession time. When I was given the opportunity to order a t-shirt quilt, I froze. I received the instructions but only skimmed them and immediately thought I was in over my head. Wrongly, I assumed I was going to have to measure and cut every shirt. Were I doing it from scratch from some custom shirts Houston, this would have been the case. To be honest, I may not have done the project if that was the case. I dragged my feet on sending in my order because it felt like a chore.
Pro tip:
READ THE INSTRUCTIONS. Because you DON’T cut your own pieces. You send in the entire side of the shirt you want them to include on the quilt.
While I was stalling on cutting the shirts, I actually wasn’t sure which shirts I wanted to send in. I wasn’t sure if I wanted to let go of being able to wear these t-shirts in the future as I felt I could customize them myself to make them wearable again. However, once I saw this face on shirt I realised it was time to let go of these dated t-shirts! My initial desire to have a t-shirt quilt was to showcase my race shirts. But I actually still wear a lot of my race shirts, and the ones I don’t wear I couldn’t have cared less to showcase on a quilt. Know what I mean? Instead of doing race shirts, I went a completely different route.
Which shirts to choose?!
Band shirts, people. I’ve been holding onto various band shirts since the early to mid 90s. I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve moved in the last 20 years but one thing I know for sure — I’ve moved two bins worth of band shirts with me each time. I just can’t let go. There are far too many awesome memories for me to ditch those shirts.
Project Repat came along and finally I knew my shirts had a new home! Where they could still be loved and used, and not shoved in a plastic bin for all eternity until I died and my children would have to go through my belongings. They would pick up one of my Nirvana shirts and ask each other, “why was mom so in love with Kurt Cobain?” Or maybe they would have loved the same bands I did and wanted to wear vintage shirts in their formative years.
I dunno.
But now my shirts are on a quilt! And it’s amazing!
The process
The process for Project Repat was so easy. You don’t cut your own panels. They do. You pick the shirt, cut the entire side of shirt you want on your quilt, box them all up, and ship them off. You receive an email when your shirts arrive, and then an email when your quilt is heading your way. It is truly the easiest process ever.
You can design your own layout if you wish by taking a photo of the shirts and sending it with them, or you can let the seamstresses create your quilt for you. The stitching is fantastic, the fleece is oh-so-soft. I’m so happy with my quilt.
So — bottom line — would I recommend Project Repat to cherish your wearable memories? YES! I love my quilt.
