I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving with friends and family yesterday. Today, though I’m technically a day late, I’d like to take this opportunity to talk about five things I’m thankful for in my life. I’m not a Black Friday shopper so I’ll be spending today with family as we #optoutside and chat about things that we’re thankful for in our lives.
Giving Thanks This Holiday Season
1. Freedom
There’s been a lot of shenanigans playing out in the United States for the last couple of months weeks. And one thing I am grateful for is freedom, in particular freedom of speech. We may disagree with one another, but we are free to speak our minds without fear of persecution. And for that, I am thankful.
2. Family
This Thanksgiving we spent it with my aunt and uncle and my cousins and cousin-in-law. We had a wonderful afternoon and evening together. I exchanged text messages with my family several states away. I’m thankful for my family.
3. Friends
Every Thanksgiving begins with a Turkey Trot with friends. Not all of my friends are present, because that would be impossible seeing as they don’t all run, but starting off the day of thanks with some of my favorite people makes me feel happy and thankful for such wonderful people in my life.
4. Food
I’m thankful that I live in relative comfort and am able to afford good food to eat. It makes me happy and I never take it for granted. I’m thankful for the food I have, the food I get to cook and bake, and the food I get to enjoy. And let’s be honest, I’m really thankful for Thanksgiving food.
5. Fitness
For some people, fitness isn’t a given. It’s something they work hard for every day, or something they’re not interested in pursuing. For me, I work hard at it, but I enjoy it. When you enjoy something it’s less like work and more like pleasure. To that end, I’m thankful for fitness. It’s my way of life and I’m so happy I figured it out sooner rather than later. I like living a healthy lifestyle and I’m grateful I’m able to do so.
It’s easy to get swept up in the holidays — and you should, because it’s fun! But don’t forget to take a moment to be thankful and grateful for the things you have and the wonderful people in your life. Life is short, live it up!
