Happy Friday! I’ve been dealing with the post race blues all week — I haven’t been running so I can rest and rebuild my muscles and cells to prepare for the next push. I promised myself I would take a solid week off from running and now that it’s been five days, I’m eagerly awaiting this weekend to see if I’m ready to get back in the groove. Not sure what race I’m referring to? Read my Marine Corps Marathon Race Review here and the recap of my experience here. So yeah — happy Friday, indeed!
Today officially marks the true beginning of the Friday Five 2.0. We’ve had two weeks of posts up to this point but this one kicks off the themed posts. Today’s theme? A fun one to help us get to know each other — five things we don’t know about you! I look forward to reading all your posts so be sure to link up with Fairytales and Fitness and me.
Let’s go!
Five Things You Didn’t Know About Me
1. My major in college was Criminal Justice.
That’s right. I went to school for criminal justice because I wanted to be a lawyer. And now that I actually want to use my degree, I want to be a police officer. Too bad my officer friend told me I’m too old. Whomp whomp.
Yep. I went to school for Criminal Justice — and I did really, really well. My favorite thing to learn about was Constitutional Law. I actually started as an English major but I strongly disliked the professors so I changed majors.
Ooh, this topic could keep going — want to know why I chose the school I chose in the first place (IU)? Because I was going to create a major for outdoor rec and education. Clearly that happened…
After college I screwed around for a year or two, but then I worked in marketing for a nationwide specialty retailer. I wrote visual merchandising guides for stores to follow when they put their product on shelves. After that, I created magazines and ad layouts.
2. I used to smoke cigarettes. A lot of them.
Yes, you read that right. I smoked a lot of cigarettes. During a couple months (maybe years?), I was up to two packs a day. Do you have any idea how disgusting that is? If you’re a current or former smoker, then yes you do. If you’re not, though, I can’t even describe the gross factor. I literally smoked every chance I got. And then one day, a friend sent me a link to a page that had the yocan evolve for sale and just like that, I bought it and I quit. I couldn’t have done it without the vape. This can be difficult to do, but with some determination you’ll get there. Some of my friends have struggled to quit for a while now, so they decided to look into vapes too. This has helped them a lot because they can decide how much vape juice they use, which allows them to determine their nicotine intake, giving them control over their past addiction.
3. I was a face for the LIVESTRONG.com app called MyPlate.
I’m even featured on the website and got my own photoshoot. It was pretty rad. MyPlate kicked off my lifestyle of fitness and healthy eating. I made huge life changes during this time and I’ve never looked back.
4. I’m very unhappy with my mom pouch.
But it will never go away. I’ve tried and tried. I remember when I was growing up my mom had a mom-pouch, too. It’s just the way we’re built I guess. As unhappy as I am with it, I can’t imagine my life without it. It’s where my little people lived for so long! I’ve thought about having a tummy tuck but I’m still deciding whether it’s the best option for me. Even though I’m not sure whether I’m going to go ahead with this procedure, I’ve started to look into companies like Luxurgery, just in case I change my mind. There’s no harm in doing some research into it, as it can help me make a better decision. But for now, I’ll just live with it and silently curse it every couple of weeks and then move on with life.
5. Music is my life.
I love music. All kinds, too. Don’t believe me? Here are a few of my faves: Metallica, Godsmack, Linkin Park, Grateful Dead, Umphrey’s, SCI, show tunes (Phantom, Secret Garden), techno, rap, R&B, Bob Dylan, The Beach Boys, all the Mo-Town groups, Shawn Mendes, Mumford and Sons — to name a few. Without music, life would be so… quiet.
And with that, I fare you well. Have a happy weekend everyone and I’ll see you back here on Monday for a healthy smoothie recipe for the Health Up Your Holidays challenge!
