November is typically one of my favorite months. First, it’s my birthday month (yay!). Second, it’s my husband’s birthday month (yay again!). And third, it’s Thanksgiving which just so happens to be one of my favorite holidays (yay a third time!). I love the food, the atmosphere, the warm and cozy sweaters, and yes even the football games.
Quite simply, November doesn’t tend to be my healthiest month of the year — what with all the cakes and pies and buttery casseroles. But what can I say? Birthdays! Thanksgiving! #EATALLTHEFOOD!
This year, though, I’m participating in the Health Up Your Holidays Challenge (#HealthUpYourHolidays). I’m really excited to be involved.
This post is sponsored by Designer Protein through my affiliation with Sweat Pink and Fit Approach. All ideas, reviews, and recipes are my own.
Health Up Your Holidays Challenge
I used to go crazy during the month of November. The last few years, however, I’ve had races to run through November and December. When I race I like to be in the best shape possible. So while I indulge, yes, I do have to exhibit a bit of self-control most of the time. To make sure I’m staying on track, I tend to drink a lot of smoothies, load up on clementines and bananas, and fill my bowl with lots and lots of veggies usually in salad form.
Family Traditions
In my family, our birthday and holiday traditions generally revolve around food. For Thanksgiving, if I’m not hosting, I usually come to a feast with two dishes in hand — my mother-in-law’s sweet potato crunch and my Aunt Flo’s chocolate mousse torte. And if we’re the family hosting, we usually have roasted garlic smashed potatoes and pecan pie (corn syrup-free, of course).
In a week I’ll stuff my face with cake for two days, and then back off. After my upcoming Turkey Trot, I’ll eat everything in sight, and then back off. And for my husband’s birthday, I’m sure I’ll eat more cake than I can handle, but then reel it back in. Gone are the days of eating garbage for weeks on end. I’ve got races to run!
I plan on using a bit more self control this year than years past. I love sugar but sugar doesn’t love me. This will be a perfect opportunity to maintain discipline and stay on track.
