It’s been a while. What can I say? Life is busy these days. I’ve been focusing a lot on my training. Not only have I been trying to get back to pre-pregnancy weight (which I have, finally!), but I’ve been also trying to meet a goal of 500 miles in 2013. I am literally so close I can see the finish line. I might not be close enough, though. I have to give myself a lot of credit, however. I was pregnant for almost seven months of 2013. So honestly, any mileage is pretty darn impressive. I will be happy with any number, but happiest to reach 500. Fingers crossed for me!
2014 will be the year of 1,000. I’m sure my husband will be so excited to hear of my new goal. Wink, wink.
In addition to my mileage goal, I am also streaking through the holidays. I’m really excited. Mostly because that means I will be at least one mile closer to my goal every day, if not more. You should streak, too!
I have recently met some fabulous ladies. One is from a running group that I belong to but have never actually run with. We met at the Cleveland Turkey Trot over Thanksgiving. She is such a sweetie and I’m really happy to have met her. She is one of my new running buddies. The other lady I have recently become acquainted is the mom of one of my Boo’s classmates. And she lives in my ‘hood! And she runs! ‘Tis glorious.
The three of us got together this morning for a nice few miles. I really enjoy running alone. The speed, the solitude. Getting lost in my music. But there is something quite nice about running with friends on the dark, quiet streets of the neighborhood in the pre-dawn hours. Running alone in the dark isn’t quite as enjoyable as one would think. Have I mentioned that I have been chased by deer, as well as yelled at by an Orthodox man on Shabbat? Just another day in the life…
We hosted Thanksgiving this year! It was insanity. And really fun. My brother and his wife, and their two boys, as well as my parents, came to see us for a few days. We all ventured to the Great Lakes Science Center, clambered ten people into a teeny tiny booth made for five, crammed into our small house to cook, play, and eat, and the kids got to enjoy Chanukah together. It was really a fun holiday. We wish our family lived closer. I’m glad Thanksgiving break is over, however, because now Boo gets to go to school and have an outlet for his energy. He is getting along there very well.
We also recently ventured to Indiana for my brother-in-law’s wedding. We took both kids with us, and it was much less fun for the adults than the kids. Little Bee ended up getting sick while we were there, which we didn’t even realize until wedding day. She has actually been fighting it for over two weeks now. I hope there is an end in sight soon. Needless to say, wedding day was not at all fun for mama (yeah, that’s me). But daddy and Boo had a grand time. The ceremony was rough for Boo because he wanted so badly to be in the wedding with his daddy, but after that he was just fine. He played with his cousins (different side of the family), and he had a BLAST at the reception. Even Little Bee had fun dancing with daddy, despite her tummy troubles. All in all, it was a busy, but very successful, month of November!
This weekend I am excited to run again in the first Christmas Story run! 2013 is the 30th anniversary of the classic movie, and I’m really looking forward to getting out on the road and running from Public Square to the Christmas Story house with two friends. The Turkey Trot was nice and slick, and my time really sucked, so I’m hoping for a do-over this weekend with better time. I’m sure it won’t happen because yet again, here comes Mother Nature ready to dump some snow on Northeast Ohio.
So that basically sums up my life in the last month. I’ve been enjoying meeting new friends, being busy, reading lots of books — oh, saw Hunger Games: Catching Fire with the hubs. It was awesome. I didn’t care for the first movie all too much. I didn’t think they did a great job at developing the story or characters, or any of the important connections for that matter. But the second one was fabulous. I’m really looking forward to Divergent, as well.
Anyways, cheerio, friends! Hope you have a splendid week! Stay healthy 🙂
