Almost 10 months ago, my family and I experienced the vacation of a lifetime. We joined the ranks of the thousands of visitors to the happiest place on Earth — Disney World.
My memories of our Disney trip are sadly fading as all memories do. But the photos, ticket stubs, and souvenirs we brought back from our trip remind me every day of what a wonderful time we had together.
I have been collecting items for a Disney scrapbook over the last several months (okay, the last nine) and I am finally putting together our family vacation memories. It is such a stressful endeavor. Piecing together each day, each memory, each meal. Every laugh, every smile, every shiver as it was quite chilly in Orlando while we were there.
I am working as quickly as I can to finish up the scrapbook. Boo’s memory has faded faster than mine. I am so thankful that we took this trip when we did. It was his last official hurrah as an only child. We got to really soak in every aspect of his little being without any other distraction. But being so young, his memories as he grows will change and warp — and possibly disappear — with time.
As I gaze out into the doom and gloom of another Cleveland winter day, I long for the days of Disney planning and packing. And of finally embarking on our family adventure. I look forward to the days when we can go again, this time with Little Bee in tow instead of just a warm baby ball in my belly. This time she can enjoy the rides and characters from the outside.
I recently saw the movie Saving Mr. Banks. Although I never liked Mary Poppins all that much, and have a very vague recollection of the movie, it was nice to be brought back to the strange reality Walt Disney created, even just for a couple of hours in a movie theater with some girl friends.
The Disney Marathon just took place as well. I feel an odd desire to couple a family vacation with a crazy long run. Maybe 2015 will be my year?
I very much look forward to the next Disney trip. I think when we do go again, the kids will have a blast with one another. I can’t wait to create more memories.
