It’s product review day! Today I want to talk about socks. Again. 🙂
I recently purchased a 6-pack of Under Armour No Show Athletic Socks. Now before I tell you about these socks, I want to say that I normally LOVE Under Armour. I have several UA shirts and they are amazing. They keep me warm, they keep me cool, they are super comfy.
I will also unveil that I purchased said socks at Dick’s Sporting Goods. If you know me personally, you know I don’t particularly like that store but unfortunately I don’t have many other options besides specialty running shops. I just so happened to be at Dick’s for something else, which is why I bought said socks there in the first place.
Anyway!
When I was shopping for socks, I checked the sizing. I was a little flabbergasted that I could only find Women’s MD sizes in these particular socks. I ended up going for the girls size because I have a small foot (size 6).
I took these socks home, washed them, and wore one pair. I immediately noticed how small these socks were. Yes I sized down, but the size was supposed to fit a women’s 6.5 so I thought I would be safe there. Well, I was wrong. After wearing this pair, I was putting my laundry away the following day and I noticed that one pair was obscenely tiny. Obscenely.
Important to note: the wash instructions said not to use a dryer sheet, which I dutifully followed and did not use a dryer sheet.
Back to the store this pack went. They took them back with no problem. I opted for the Women’s MD this time and hoped it was just a fluke. Unfortunately, it was not a fluke. I again took the socks home, washed them and dried them (without using a dryer sheet!), and lo and behold ONE sock was extremely tiny AND I could see the honeycomb stitching which none of the other socks had. It appeared that either this was the completely wrong sock, or it was just an oddity in the pack.
I took these socks back to the store (again) and explained what happened (again). This time I was smart enough to not buy the same brand. I opted for Asics instead. So far so good. I’ll keep you posted.
Also to note: I should not have bought these socks for running. They weren’t running-specific and I think the couple times I wore them they partially contributed to my plantar fasciitis flare-up.
I don’t know what to say about these UA socks. I had high hopes for them. I really thought the first pack was a fluke. I will say this — having worked in sporting goods and for a couple different sporting goods retailers, I know how Dick’s works and it might not be Under Armour’s fault at all. Who knows. I hope it’s not. I really like that brand.
Moral of the story? If you’re in the market for running socks, just go to a running store. Or buy your tried-and-true brand again.
In other news, in the same trip I bought another Under Armour running shirt, so I’ll let you know how that goes after I wear it. I’m sure it will be as glorious as all of my other ones.
Happy Hump Day!!!
