Hey babe… this post is for you. 🙂
Before I begin, I would like to take a moment to complain. First of all, the weather sucks again. I can’t handle it. I beg of you, whoever is in charge, please PLEASE turn winter off. We’ve had enough. Truly. Second of all, I had a horrible run this morning. I did some strength training on Tuesday which apparently rocked my world because on Wednesday I was so sore I could barely sit down to pee! My run went well, so that was awesome. But then today, I’m a little less sore, and my run suuuuuuucked. I had so many interruptions and it was speed work day, which kind of turned into “I’ll run a little here really hard, and then basically walk a little there…” It was a mess. Ok, I’m done complaining. Thanks for letting me get that off my chest. Back to the real reason we’re here today…
Positive influences come in all shapes, sizes, families, friends, and even places. My rock, my shining beacon of light, is my husband. He has been there to cheer me on every step of the way. When I was first starting out on my weight loss journey three years ago, he taught me how to lose weight effectively even though he himself has never had a weight issue in his life (though he may argue that he is too skinny, which I completely disagree with). He taught me to push through the tough workouts. He cheered me on during races and training runs. He has been my support system from day one.
Isn’t he handsome? 🙂
What else has he been put through? That LIVESTRONG.com photoshoot. All of my complaints about crappy runs (see above rant). My joy when I’ve realized I could run much longer than I thought I could. First it was three miles. Now it’s nine. This weekend it will be ten. He has been my cheerleader, my best friend, my trainer when it comes to strength training and nutrition (how does he know all this stuff?!), and he’s been the best dad in the world.
Because you know what? I couldn’t have completed all those workouts, put in all those miles, and achieved all of those goals without him being the most active and attentive dad there is. I know so many families where the dad takes the back seat and lets the mom do all the work. Not my guy. He steps up to the plate and wants to be an active part of our kids’ lives. I love him for that.
The other reason my husband is such a positive influence (besides all the ones I already listed) is that he is almost always happy. He is such a charismatic, positive person, that when I’m in a bad mood I just want to be near him to leech off of his good vibes. He doesn’t let much get him down. He’s the kind of guy that lets the unimportant nonsense of day to day life roll off like he’s Rain-X on a windshield during a thunderstorm. He just doesn’t let the little stuff bother him. He has made me a better person because of it. I used to get so angry at the dumbest stuff and I would dwell on it forever. And you know what? It brought me down. A lot. But now I’ve let his positivity deep into my soul and I, too, can let the little things roll off. He has taught me not to sweat the small stuff.
I could go on and on about how awesome my husband is and how he has positively influenced me and my life choices. But I think you get the drift of it now. I hope you are lucky enough to have someone as awesome as this guy in your life. Your best friend, your mom, your spouse — heck, even your kids! And if you don’t have a positive life force nearby, find one. It’s a game changer, friends. These guys rock.
