Happy Thursday! I’m sad to be blogging this Thursday because that means it’s officially the last day of vacation. Whomp whomp.
Since it’s Thursday and it’s time to think out loud, here we go…
Sore Calves, All the [Sea] Food, and Burnt Ears
1. One of the saddest things about vacation ending? It means my husband has to go back to work. Vacation means we get to hang out together 24/7. And we definitely get on each other’s nerves, but since we have two high-energy little people, our time together at home is limited to about an hour a day plus a couple hours on the weekends. On vacation we’re still with the little people but since we’re together 24/7, that means we get at least three hours of quality time together each day — even if it is cut up into 5 minute increments throughout the day.
2. Rotten weather on vacation sometimes forces you to do things you wouldn’t normally have done. Take the JFK Museum, for example. I love history so despite my sister-in-law’s words of caution that our kids would be bored out of their minds, it wasn’t the best beach weather in the world so we went to the museum anyway. Granted she was totally right and our kids were totally bored, but we got to see some pretty amazing things and learn a lot, too. If it was beautiful, warm, and sunny every day of our vacation, there’s no way we would have gone. #silverlining
3. I’m feeling guilty about not getting all my runs in (or almost any for that matter) while on vacation. But my calves are really sore anyway, so I must have done something right. Maybe it was the beach running. Or the shlepping back and forth on the 3/4 mile beach yesterday with literally five armloads of stuff per adult, plus chasing after the two kids. Either way, I’m sufficiently spent. So yeah. I feel guilty. But I’m also pooped so I’m not sure if I would have gotten those runs done anyway.
4. I’m pretty sure the only foods available on the Cape include one (or all) of the following: lobster, deep fried whatever, and ice cream. Also, every dinner out costs the same amount of money, regardless of where you go.
We ate dinner one night at a shack on the side of a highway at picnic tables. Then another night we ate at a trendy restaurant in downtown Hyannis. And yet another night we had probably our fanciest, most delicious meal with ocean views on a tiny side street in who-knows-where. And they all cost the same amount of money. How is this possible?!
5. There are far fewer lighthouses on the Cape than I originally expected. Or at least lighthouses one can visit in person. A lot of them are privately owned. Strange, right?
6. Whoever said “anything about SPF 30 is the same” is totally wrong. I’ve been using SPF 50 and I swear I’m not even tan. Next time I’m busting out the oil, people. Just kidding… But maybe SPF 30 instead of 50. But someone has got to remind me to put sunblock on my ears. I thought ear-burns only plagued men-folk. Bah-humbug!
7. Who here is from Massachusetts? I had no idea you guys required GMO labeling. I’m so proud of you! Can you spread some GMO-labeling vibes to Ohio? I feel like I need this in my life. So far it hasn’t necessarily changed my eating habits, but it is nice to see what I’m eating.
I think that sums up my random thoughts for the week. What about you?

Did your mom/aunt/grandma used to use tanning oil?
Sun-in: yay or nay?
