It’s been a little bit of a discombobulated week for me. This is nothing new. It actually happens to me during race week every time I race. I find it really hard to focus on any one thing. I make list after list, and I never follow anything on any of the lists. But I take any time available to try to relax and gather my thoughts nonetheless. Which is why Thinking Out Loud is actually quite perfect for this week. Come along with me as I think about some stuff out loud…
Race Week and Total Mind Discombobulation
Speaking of relaxing, it’s hard to relax outside when there’s nothing but noise: construction noise, landscaping noise, woodpecker noise, and a seemingly incessant chirping noise from a bird I can’t identify. And don’t forget the crows!!! My gosh are those suckers loud.
A couple weeks ago they started doing construction for new homes across the ravine from my house. The first day was the saddest day for the trees. I could hear nothing but chainsaws all day and I knew they were clearing the forest. It was so sad. I really felt like I could hear the trees crying.
I’ll be getting two days of mid-70s weather this week and I am PUMPED!!
It’s race week which means I’ve literally done nothing but think about my race. I’ve thought about eating better, drinking tons of water, travel logistics, if my kids will have fun… And the list goes on. And on. And on. I’ve been emailing with my coach about my race plan. He told me to relax and let the race come to me. THAT DOES NOT HAPPEN IN MY WORLD!!!
Phew. I feel better all CAPSing that.
It’s been really fun to be a Cleveland Marathon ambassador. I’ve loved flaunting my ambassador shirt on many of my training runs. I’m looking forward to the ambassador reception on Friday!
I haven’t decided if I’m going to race or make this a fun run and just chill with my friends and take tons of pics. Half of me wants to race because I’m uber competitive. The other half just wants to have fun. But a PR’s always nice so there’s that. It might be a game day decision.
I’ve been rereading my posts from last year leading up to my first marathon. Wow, what a wild ride that was. I need redemption, you guys. There’s no doubt that 26.2 miles is a hella long distance to run. But now that I started this journey last year, I gotta wrap up some loose ends. It makes my palms sweat just thinking about it. But come October… I don’t even know how to end this sentence, that’s how disorganized my thoughts are right now. Feel me?
What’s up with all the ants? It’s like they know I don’t like them so they just follow me around.
Can I just tell you something? My very first half marathon was the Cleveland Half Marathon in 2014. This will be my sixth half. Wow, how times have changed!
I’m so looking forward to seeing some of my running pals on race morning. If you’re running on Sunday, join us for a quick meet up complete with high fives and photos!
All right, I gotta wrap this up. I better get back to those to-do lists. They’re not going to finish themselves…
