IT’S RACE WEEK!!!
Here’s what I’m feeling right now:
- Excited for this to be over with. I’m totally, 100% fatigued from training. I need a break.
- Nervous to get downtown. I hate getting downtown! I don’t know why! It’s not like I live in a huge city or anything. Or maybe just nervous because it’s race week? That’s possible.
- Excited to see my friends! I’ve got a BIG weekend ahead. Receptions, races, expo, brunch. So many photo opps. It’s gonna be epic!
- A little panicked. Once Cleveland’s over, I take a few weeks off and then I’m into MARATHON training! Holy hell, what did I get myself into?
- Excited! Two of my clients will be running Cleveland. One is running the 10K and the other is running the half. I truly couldn’t be more excited for both of them! It’s going to be a great day.
Okay, so now that we’ve covered basically all the feels, let me tell you about my training last week! It went pretty well.
Half Marathon Training: Week 13!
Tuesday – 6 miles
Fartlek! I’m not a huge fan of fartlek runs. I mean, for my clients yes. For me, no. I just can’t seem to get into a groove with a fartlek. That is, until, my coach created a very achievable workout for me. I had fun on Tuesday. The first two miles were tough because it was cold out (yet again…) but once I warmed up I felt pretty good.
Wednesday – 6.06 miles
Wednesday was a fantastic run despite still being cold out. I’m so over the cold! I know I’m in the minority when I say this, but I truly run so much better when it’s warm out! Not like 100˚ but give me 70s – 80s any day and I’m a happy girl. I really am looking forward to summer time running.
Thursday – 6 miles
I totally botched Thursday. I was supposed to do a 7-mile tempo run. I have no idea what happened but my (fuzzy) math ended up screwing me so I ran 6 miles with only three of them being fast instead of the 5 that were supposed to be. Oops. But I felt awesome so at least I had that going for me (which was nice…)
Thursday was also an amazing mail day.
Saturday – 9 miles
Saturday was pretty good. I ran 9 miles with a fast finish.
Unfortunately my GI tract decided to be all like “oh hey! Don’t forget about me! I can make your life miserable any time!” That happened with a mile left. It was less than awesome. I stopped for a few seconds to settle my gut down and then finished up my run. Other than that I felt great.
I discovered an awesome podcast that I’m totally digging called Beautiful Stories from Anonymous People. You may have heard of it or even listen to it. But if you don’t, I highly recommend it.
Sunday – 3 miles
Sunday was a fantastic run. I normally coach on Sunday mornings but since it was Mother’s Day and we’re all moms (and my husband requested I stay home in the morning), I decided we all needed the day off. I hope my ladies enjoyed a lovely morning with their families.
After a really fun morning with my kids and husband, we went on a family run for 2 miles, then I finished up with one mile solo. It was a beautiful day and I’m thankful the weather was so perfect. It was a nice, easy run.
I wore my Altras and despite thinking I was going to be sore the next day, I wasn’t at all. I think I’m ready to increase my zero drop mileage. After my race, of course.
So yeah. That was my week! Pretty awesome.
This week will be really low key. It’s funny because I’ve never really gotten the taper crazies before a race. Tapering never really seemed to bother me. But for some reason today, while writing up this post and looking ahead to my workouts for this week, I’m starting to feel a little antsy. Like I should definitely be running more. But I know I shouldn’t nor do I need to.
I tell my friends and clients this all the time — trust the training!
If you’re in CLE, I better see you this weekend at the race! Watch social media for a meetup post for Sunday morning. And if you are local, don’t forget to enter to win my giveaway for a FREE ENTRY to the Copper River Salmon Run race on May 21!
Have a great week of training, everyone!
