Halloween Ghosts
Ingredients
- 1 package of Nutter Butter cookies
- 12 oz white chocolate chips (or melting chocolate)
- a handful or two of mini chocolate chips
How to Melt White Chocolate
Use a double boiler if you have one. Otherwise, the microwave will work just fine. If you’ve never melted white chocolate before, here’s a tip: avoid any sort of liquid — steam or otherwise — or else your white chocolate will seize and stiffen, rendering it useless. When you use a double boiler, do not remove the top pan from the bottom, and do not use a lid. If you are adding any flavoring or coloring, make sure it is added before you start melting the chocolate. Another tip? Use a metal or silicone spoon for stirring.
Fill the bottom pan of the double boiler with about 1″ of water. Heat the water on medium high heat until it’s lightly boiling. Reduce the heat to low. Put the white chocolate chips or melting chocolate in to the top pan, and put the top pan on top of the warming water. (If you’re using the microwave, omit this step.)
Stir the chocolate continuously until most of the lumps and bumps are gone. Once they are mostly gone, you can remove from the heat careful to avoid any steam getting into the pot. Continue stirring until the chocolate is smooth.
To melt in the microwave, set your microwave to 50-60% power, and melt in 30-second intervals, stirring between each interval. The goal is to melt the white chocolate slowly without burning it or causing it to seize. Once your white chocolate has seized, it’s difficult to get it back to the original state.
Make the Ghosts!
Once your chocolate is melted, dip Nutter Butters into the melted chocolate, shake off the excess, and place them on a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper. Place two of the mini chocolate chips in place for eyes. Let cool and dry. Tip: it’s best to do a few ghosts at a time, so the white chocolate doesn’t dry and harden before you have a chance to place the eyes on. Also, you’ll need to taste-test as you go to make sure they are suitable to give to guests or to take to a Halloween party. You’ll need to allow time for that.
Spooky Witches Hats
