There are lots of reasons why spring running is straight up amazing, and very few reasons that it’s not. I’ve been on a fantastic run streak, and it’s totally because it’s spring. Since today is the Friday Five linkup AND Earth Day, I’ll give you five reasons why spring running is the best.
Before we begin, shout out to my dad because it’s his BIRTHDAY!! Hope you have a fantastic day today, Dad!!
5 Reasons Spring Running is the Best
1. One word — sunrise. That’s right. For those of us in the northern hemisphere, as the earth tilts toward the sun, our days will continue to get longer. This means no more waking up at the crack of dawn at 7:30 am to squeeze a run in before school, work, or other adult responsibilities. It means the sun now rises at 6:37 am (where I am, anyway). That means I can wake up and it’s not pitch black. I can get dressed for my run — not in the dark. And I can head out — not with a headlamp. And I can get an easy 5-miler in and be home before my husband is in a frantic rush to leave for work! It’s a darn miracle!
2. Shorts and t-shirts. HOLLA! Can I get a “what, what”?? Heck to the yes, we can now run in shorts and t-shirts. No more layering all the fabrics. No doubling up on socks. No gloves or mittens! Getting dressed takes 3 minutes now instead of 30. Runfies? Done in seconds. No need to de-glove anymore!
3. Wildlife! There are birds chirping, there are geese flapping. There are deer staring you down. Okay, that last one might be a little scary for people like me, but do you know what that means?! It means the animals are just as happy as we are that it’s spring time!
4. Flowers and vegetation. I long for the days when all the trees are filled in and there’s green everywhere. We’re getting there, no doubt. I’m loving all the beautiful flowers — purples and yellows. And the white and pink blossoms on trees. It’s an awakening, I tell you! And running through spring is truly a gift to witness it.
5. Track days. It’s true. I have actually missed Track Tuesday. What can I say? I love those workouts. They make me feel like I’ve earned my place in the running world. I’m not fast, but I sure do feel like I am when I’m plugging away at my 400s or 800s, or whatever’s on my schedule.
In truth, as much as I love spring running, I really love summer running. I know I’m in the minority, though, and I won’t get ahead of myself. One day at a time and right now I’m enjoying spring!
Have a great weekend, Happy Passover if you’re celebrating, and I’ll catch you back here on Monday for another Meatless Monday linkup!
