Have you ever tried matcha? I recently had the opportunity to review organic matcha by Kiss Me Organics. I had never heard of matcha before this opportunity presented itself. I know, I know. I must have been living in a cave. Now that I know what it is, it seems that everyone else knows what it is, too. And now that I know what it is, and all the amazing things you can do with it, I feel like I’m going to be unstoppable!
Matcha! |
I already shared a matcha recipe with you earlier this week — and lucky you, I have another one to share today. That will come at the end of the review. (And stay tuned because if you like matcha or want to try it, I have two additional recipes in the works!)
Matcha butter cookies. |
So what exactly is matcha? According to Wikipedia, it’s high quality, finely ground, powdered green tea. It’s full of antioxidants, it’s an energy booster, a cancer fighter — and so much more. Much more than I can properly speak to in this single post.
Kiss Me Organics matcha is culinary grade and organic. There are several grades of matcha. Ceremony grade is optimal for drinking as a tea. Culinary grade is preferred for baking and using as an ingredient in cooking. And there are several grades between Ceremony and Culinary. You can drink culinary grade matcha as a tea, but supposedly the flavor is more of a full green tea taste as opposed to a more delicate flavor of ceremony grade. (I have no personal experience in this department.)
Since I’ve never experienced matcha before, when I first received the product, I tasted it on my finger. Big mistake. Don’t do that. It was gross.
Kiss Me Organics thankfully supplied me with a nice pdf of recipes. Otherwise I wouldn’t have had a clue what to do with it. I made the Matcha Butter Cookies. The only thing I would change would be to add a bit more sugar and a tad less flour. I like my butter cookies buttery. While these were amazing, the were a little flour-heavy for my taste.
I’m going to make this simple and break it down into PROs and CONs. Check it out:
Pros
- easy to add to virtually any recipe
- gives food a nice healthy boost without altering much of the flavor — if anything, it adds to it
- the packaging is resealable — very important for preserving the freshness of your matcha
- organic!
Cons
- if you spill it, it’s a b*tch to clean up
- very bitter taste if taste-tested on a clean finger
- turns everything bright green
Just for the record, my husband accidentally knocked it off the counter — not me! |
So bottom line — would I recommend Kiss Me Organics Culinary Grade Matcha to friends and family? Totally. Would I warn them not to taste-test before using? Yes, most definitely.
And now that I’ve gotten the hang of matcha, I tried out one of my very own recipes! If you like Greek yogurt, honey, and matcha, this recipe is for you.
Enjoy!
Matcha Greek Yogurt with Berries

- 1/2 tsp coconut flakes
- 1/4 tsp hemp hearts
