It seems like there’s a new fitness craze popping up every day. Aerobics, step aerobics, Zumba, Tabata, CrossFit — the list is endless. Do you agree? Since there are so many different ways to stay fit and active it can be overwhelming. I usually end up getting shoppers fatigue and just stick with running because it’s easy, it’s what I like to do, and it suits me. But sometimes it’s a good idea to branch out and try new things.
I once posted about the five fitness trends I would never try. You’ll see why some of those made it on this list, too. If I were to try another form of fitness, it would be…
CrossFit — I’ve always been intrigued by CrossFit. How do you guys lift those weights up above your head and not drop them and severely injure yourself? One thing I’m not intrigued with is the price tag associated with a CrossFit gym, though.
Triathlon — If I could somehow muster the courage to actually swim anything but breaststroke at a leisurely pace, I would most definitely consider a triathlon. I’m a terrible swimmer, though. I can’t even figure out how to breathe while swimming freestyle. I’m a hot mess. No triathlon for me.
Tabata — I’ve read the research. I know HIIT workouts are good for you. I know Tabata will kick my ass if I try it. So what’s the hold up? I dunno. Just haven’t tried it yet.
Bikram Yoga — I really want to try Bikram. But honestly, I have to just make the time. I can’t practice Bikram at home on my own like I can with any other type of yoga I can find on YouTube. I’ll make time one of these days.
Zumba — dancing? Yes. Loud music? Yes. Fun? Sign me up! Except I really hate group fitness. Ha! I’m self conscious, totally awkward, and what’s up with the girl in the back row who has no idea what she’s doing? Yeah, that’d be me, thankyouverymuch.
Would it be ideal to change up my workouts and try something new? Probably. Am I gonna take the first step and go for it? Maybe. Will it be tomorrow or next week? Definitely not.
But I’ll branch out one of these days. I really enjoy my runs, though, and I like going at my own pace with my yoga practice and even with cycling. Baby steps, people. I’ll add some other fitness routines eventually.
