There’s nothing more rejuvenating than going for a run in the spring. Check out these five reasons why spring running is amazing!
I’m a little off-kilter with my theme-following this month. Last week I hoped to repurpose an old Friday Five post but instead opted to share tips to live healthier. In any event, this week the theme is Luck of the Irish.
Sadly, I’ve had literally no good luck at all this week. I was hoping to run my first race of 2018 on Saturday at the Kiss Me I’m a Runner 5K/10K but I’ve had a low grade fever for the last few days so who knows if that will happen. And since this winter is crushing my spirit and I’m longing for sunshine and warm weather, I’m backtracking to last week’s topic and repurposing an old post.
So without further ado, here are five reasons spring running is amazing! Is it spring yet???!!! Pleeeeease???
Five Reasons Spring Running is Amazing
This is a variation on my post from April 2016 — read it here!
1. Beautiful sunrises.
For those of us in the northern hemisphere, as the earth tilts toward the sun, our days will continue to get longer. As the skies turn from cloudy, overcast and snowy, we get to see more beautiful sunrises like the one pictured below. Spring sunrises are the best.
2. Shorts and t-shirts.
No more layering all the fabrics or doubling up on socks. No gloves or mittens, and no more hand-warmers and neck gaiters. Getting dressed takes 3 minutes instead of 30 in the spring. Runfies? Done in seconds. No need to de-glove!
3. Wildlife!
There are birds chirping, there are geese flapping. There are owls hooting and squirrels running to and fro. All the activity means the animals are just as happy as we are that it’s spring time!
4. Flowers and vegetation.
I long for the days when all the trees are filled in and there’s green everywhere. We’ll be there soon I hope. The beautiful flowers will be popping soon — purples and yellows, whites and pinks. When the flowers bloom it’s like an awakening. And running through spring is truly a gift to witness it.
5. Track days.
After a long winter like the one we’ve had, there’s nothing I love more than to hit the track. I love track workouts. They make me feel like I’ve earned my place in the running world. As much as I love the trails and the natural beauty of the woods, there’s nothing I love more than running on the track in springtime.
As you can see, there are plenty of reasons to love spring running. I can’t wait until all this snow melts and there’s abundant sunshine for days on end. The winter of 2017-18 has been one for the books. Snow, ice — ice and more snow — it’s been dragging on for months. I’m not sure if any records have been set, but it sure feels like it anyway. I can’t wait for spring and summer running!
