The Bar Shack offers a unique experience allowing everyone to create a customized protein bar! It’s fun to do and the end results are delicious.
I’ve been on a quest to increase my protein intake over the last several weeks. Until recently, I was so used to being on a carb-heavy diet for so long that I didn’t realize how much protein I’ve been missing. As such, I’ve been adding protein to almost every meal and every snack. The most experimentation I’ve done as far as protein goes has been with protein bars. Years ago you wouldn’t have caught me holding a protein bar and willingly eating it as a snack. They were chalky and thick, and just not good. Protein bars have come a long way. So long, in fact, that now you can create your own customized protein bar with exactly the ingredients you want and the flavors you’re after.

Create a Customized Protein Bar with The Bar Shack!
The Bar Shack offers a completely customizable protein-bar experience. I say experience because that’s exactly what it is. At first go, I tried to create my bars on my own. I kept adding too many things (excited!) so I recruited the help of my husband. The experience is pretty straight-forward, but can become a little overwhelming if you let it. My advice: for your first order, stick to what you know and recruit a friend or family member to help you.
How to create your customized protein bar
When you get to The Bar Shack homepage, you’ll want to click the Build-a-Bar tab. You can choose from Protein Bars, Gourmet Protein Bars, and Cheat Day Bars. They’re all very similar with a few differences in each category. I chose the Cheat Day Bars. I didn’t quite capitalize on all of the amazing Cheat Day options, but I heeded my own advice and stuck to the ingredients I knew I liked.
There are seven modules of ingredients to add to your bar. They include: protein bar base, nut and seed butters, protein powders and flours, nuts and seeds, dried fruit, flavor and texture enhancers, and boosters. As you select the items to go into your bar, the nutrition facts floats alongside the webpage to keep you apprised of calories, fats, cholesterol, sodium, carbohydrates, and proteins in your bar, along with vitamin and mineral content. You’ll notice with each ingredient addition (or subtraction), the nutrition facts change.
Name it!
After you choose all the ingredients to make your perfect bar, you get to name your bar and choose your packaging. Honestly? THIS WAS THE HARDEST PART! Naming my own bar? I wanted it to be catchy, reflect my business, but not be cheesy. I went through many different iterations of my protein bar’s name and finally landed on Run Happy Protein Bars. Next time I’ll come up with something a little more creative.
The finished product
When I received my bars, I was so ecstatic I could barely take pictures before digging in! The one thing I was trying to avoid with my bars was creating something overly sweet. Well, I missed the mark on that one. They’re definitely very sweet. But I would say overall I did an excellent job choosing my flavors. I’m really pleased with how they turned out, and my whole family likes them, too. Next time I’ll definitely dial down the sweet factor just a touch.
