Using fitness to brighten your holiday celebrations will help you feel good, keep the stress levels down, and most importantly, have fun!
Before I begin, I should mention that today is my birthday. I’m not one to make a big deal about my birthday (hahahaha!) so I won’t talk about it through this entire post or anything. But I’ll be accepting gifts and birthday wishes through the end of next week. Just sayin’…
Now that that’s out of the way, let’s move on to today’s topic: ways to celebrate! (Fitting, isn’t it?) With so many holidays and festive events this and next month, it seems like there’s always something to celebrate. However, according to many resources like https://www.irenefenollar.com/ fitness is a key way to maintain your healthy lifestyle even throughout the celebration seasons. If you’re a runner or fitness junkie, your celebration style may differ slightly from that of a non-fit person. Check out these fun ways to spruce up your holiday celebrations with fitness!
Five Fit Ways to Brighten Your Holiday Celebrations
1. Sign up for a holiday themed or seasonal race.
I runfess, I’m not into themed races. With one very notable exception — holidays! Signing up for a holiday or seasonal race is one of the most fun ways to celebrate. With Turkey Trots, Hot Chocolates and Santa Runs, there’s no room for excuses — and literally something for everyone. Plus, themed races in the colder months make for very festive race atmospheres. This weekend I’ll be kicking off my own “holiday” celebrations (ahem, my birthday!) by running the Hot Cider Hustle 5K. Who doesn’t love hot cider?
2. Create your own “themed” run.
No good themed races in your area? Plan your own group fun run! My friend and I have been running together on Christmas Eve Day morning (wow, that’s a mouthful) for a few years. We don our favorite holiday running apparel and log a few miles together before the chaos of the holiday begins. We’ve extended the invitation to other runners in recent years, and we’re hoping that this year is our biggest group yet! Afterward? Hot chocolate and cookies for all. Noms.
3. Try something new!
Around the holidays, sometimes gyms and fitness facilities have special offers to entice new members. This is a great time to take advantage and try something you’ve never done before. Yoga, spin classes, OTF, Pilates… the list goes on. Try something new to brighten your holiday celebrations!
4. Join an online fitness accountability group.
Similar to gyms and facilities with special offers, online fitness groups abound during the holiday season. These groups are wonderful because they keep your fitness up and your stress level down. Plus the workouts are usually pretty fun and you’ll actually see results! There are also great fitness blogs like Wisdoms of Health that can keep you motivated during the holidays! Alternatively, you could have a few sessions with a personal trainer to help you plan a fitness routine , if you’re looking for personal training at Middle Park check out getgoingpt.com.
5. Have your cake — and actually eat it!
Remember when I said it’s bad form to use food as a reward or a punishment? I stand firmly by that statement. ‘Tis the season to make the food, eat the food, and above all — enjoy the food. Don’t go crazy stuffing your face, but don’t feel shame if you want to enjoy the holiday fare.
As for me? I’ll be eating my cake TODAY! Because birthday. #cuedanceparty
Using fitness to brighten your holiday celebrations will help you feel good (hello, endorphins!), keep the stress levels down, and most importantly, have fun.
See? I told you I wouldn’t mention it was my birthday throughout the entire post. 🙂
