Perk Up Buttercup natural skincare products smell great, work really well, and are reasonably priced. This is my review.
I runfess that I epically failed at posting a Coffee Date post last week. I had all these ideas swimming in my head but alas, time had other ideas and I couldn’t get my act together soon enough. But the good news is I’m here today — and with a super fun product review! I’m thrilled to be reviewing this new brand not only because they’re kick-ass products, but also because the owner/creator is my friend.
Disclaimer: I received products in exchange for an honest review on my blog. As always, all opinions and photography are my own.
A little background: the owner/creator of these products is an accomplished distance runner. She’s fast, she runs really far for fun, and she’s an all around amazing athlete. In addition to all that she’s accomplished in the running world, she’s also a really genuinely awesome person. She was one of my most vocal supporters in pursuit of my first 50K and I’m honestly so grateful she was there for me that day. Everything she does she does with full energy and effort, so I know these products are a labor of love for her. And with that, let me introduce you to Perk Up Buttercup: handmade and natural skincare products created as organically and locally as possible.
Perk Up Your Skin with Perk Up Buttercup! | Product Review
Perk Up Buttercup has a broad product line, including body balms, bug repellant, and more. The products I’m reviewing today are the Soothing Hemp Balm, Lavender and Vanilla Lip Balm, White Tea Peppermint Soap, and Vanilla Mint lip balm. Spoiler alert: my favourite is the soap, followed closely by the hemp balm, and then the lip balms. I’ve always been a big fan of skincare and since I’m often outside running, it’s so important to look after your skin, otherwise, it can end up sore, dry and chapped. Plus, when you’re running outdoors a lot, the exposure to UV rays can be damaging too. I’ve had a few running friends suffer from pigmentation problems where they’ve been exposed to harsh UV rays and their skin has discoloured. Thankfully, they were able to visit a site like thevictoriancosmeticinstitute.com.au and have the problems resolved. Now, they all look after their skin just as much as I do.
White Tea Peppermint Soap
I’m a sucker for a good soap. Especially a natural one. The first, and clearly most important, thing to note about the White Tea Peppermint Soap is how amazing it smells. It exudes the scent of “clean” and just smells so refreshing.
But just because it smells good doesn’t mean it is good, right? The second most important thing about a soap is the lather. A lot of natural soaps are really difficult to get a good lather. (Lather is the bubbly stuff on soap that does the washing.) I’ve tried my fair share of all natural soaps and sometimes they just flat out don’t work! Thankfully the amazing smelling bar of green goodness that is the White Tea Peppermint soap does lather exceptionally well. Phew.
The White Tea Peppermint Soap also doesn’t leave that weird residue some handmade/all natural soaps leave behind. I was pleasantly surprised by how good this soap was the first time I used it. It’s definitely my new fave! And at the $4.99 price point, it’s quite economical, too.
Soothing Hemp Balm
Next up is the Soothing Hemp Balm. Ironically, this package of goodies arrived on my doorstep right around the time of Moebius. The hemp balm arrived just in time to rub all over my IT bands and sore feet post-race. This balm… It really works, I swear! I was pretty banged up from Moebius and I don’t know if it’s the placebo effect or what, but I swear my recovery was only a few days and I have to say, I’m a believer. I’m pretty sure it was due to the hemp balm. At least partially.
The scent of the hemp balm is pleasing to me, however, it does have an earthy smell (hello, hemp?) that may not appeal to everyone. Just something to keep in mind if you’re sensitive to smells.
The soothing hemp balm is a little more pricey coming in at $10.99 but it works so it’s worth it.
Lip Balms
You know those memes that go around every few months that ask “what’s the one item that’s always in your purse?” Well, if I carried a purse, it would be lip balm. I have a lip balm in the side table next to the sofa in the family room. There’s one on my nightstand. I also have some lip balm in my center console in my car. Each hydration pack also has its own lip balm. So to say I take my lip balm game seriously would be a gross understatement of the facts.
Oh! I also have some in my desk drawer.
No jokes here, guys. Lip balm is life.
Between the two lip balms I tried from Perk Up Buttercup, I’m declaring the Vanilla Mint (stick) my favorite. But I do really enjoy the Lavender and Vanilla one as well. I use the stick during the day and the tub at night. Why do I differentiate the two? No idea. It’s just how I operate when it comes to lip balm.
You can’t go wrong with either to be honest. They’re both light and moisturizing, mildly scented, and easy to use. ($2.99 for the stick, $4.99 for the tub.)
Pro tip: for natural products that come in a tub — warm them up a bit in between your hands (or in the sunshine!) before using to make the product glide a little easier. This is a common theme with natural products that come in tubs.
In Conclusion
Perk Up Buttercup is a fantastic, new natural skincare product company and it’s definitely worth checking out. I take my skincare seriously and so does my friend whose preferences tend to go towards the Aspect Dr skincare products which she swears by. I prefer as few chemicals as possible and Perk Up Buttercup fits the bill. I’ve loved every item I’ve received and tested! Before embarking on a new skincare regime, you will need to check with a dermatologist first to see if any new products fit in with your skin type, just to be sure. Depending on where you live you will need to check which ones practice in your vicinity, like a dermatologist in London or one in New York, just to see if they have available places for you.

Let’s talk!
Do you have lip balm stashed all over the place, too?
And of course I have to ask — what’s the one thing always in your purse (or pocket)?
