This time on July Runfessions: I can’t wait for race day, chafing sucks, and a few other random thoughts on this fine Friday!
When Friday finally arrives I’m both relieved (yay Friday!) and totally bummed out (where did the week go??). This week is no different except I have a race on Saturday. I love racing, don’t get me wrong, but I also get pre-race anxiety which means Friday is neither fun nor relaxing. Before I get ahead of myself, though, since today is the monthly runfessional and all (thanks, Marcia!), I’ve got a few things to get off my chest.
July Runfessions: Race Day, Chafing, and Running Camp
I’ve missed the last couple Runfessions because I’ve totally spaced it.
First and foremost, let’s address the elephant in the room. I’ve been swamped with work and my own training this summer. Which is a big yay!! But that also means I haven’t been keeping up the blog calendar for the last couple months. July runfessions is my first runfessional in months! My bad, guys. I’ve been trying to keep up with comments and reading everyone’s posts, but when it comes to linking up with others, I’ve totally biffed it. I promise, pinky swear, cross my heart, that I’ll be back to regular blog interactions soon!
I’m swooning over my new tanks!
I finally decided to order shirts and tanks for my business. It’s been years in the making. I don’t know why it took me so long to order but it did. Anyways, I’m so pleased with how they turned out. They’re adorable and so super comfy! I’ve already washed and worn them both several times this week. #sorrynotsorry! Want one for yourself? Fill out the form on this page!
Chafing is stupid, stupid, stupid.
I runfess… I chafed not once, not twice, but THREE TIMES this week. I went almost the entire summer without chafing once and then — BAM!!! — chafing all over. It’s no good, people! No amount of lube has helped one bit in this humidity. But I do have a hunch of what’s to blame. Look for that in an upcoming post… Bah humbug.
Kids Run the Nation Camp was a ton of fun!
This week my husband and I coached Kids Run the Nation Camp. We had so much fun. It was more fun than I was expecting to be honest. We had a small group which made it easy to play games, take the kids on trail runs, and play with the agility ladder. I’m looking forward to the fall groups but nothing will beat the fun we had this week!
It’s almost race day!
I’m running the Burning River relay on Saturday as part of an 8-person all-female team. For those of you who’ve never heard of it before, the Burning River Endurance Run and Relay is a 100- and 50-mile run, and 100-mile relay that takes place through the woods, parks, and forests of Cleveland every July. It’s named after the infamous Cuyahoga River catching fire back in 1969 and celebrates our beautiful, natural surroundings that we’re lucky to have in many of our backyards. Last year I volunteered at the Leg 2/Leg 3 exchange aid station. It was a really fun experience.
This will be my first year running any distance of the race. My leg is leg 2 and I’ll be running 13.8 miles. I’m lucky to have a wonderful running partner and a great team. I haven’t decided if I’m wearing my trail or road shoes yet, though. My leg isn’t too technical. There are a few water crossings and with our recent rain that could mean deeper-than-anticipated creeks. And I really, really hope I don’t chafe. Ah well, I’ll figure it out, right?
I can’t wait for race day!
Read more about the Cuyahoga River fires here for some interesting facts and check out this year’s Burning River commemorative poster here.
I’m sure I have a few other things to runfess but in the spirit of it being Friday of a very busy week ahead of a race day, I’m keeping this one short and sweet.
I hope you all have a wonderful weekend!
