Can someone please explain to me how it’s already the end of September? There’s no way it’s going to be October this weekend. No way. Time is flying way too fast…
Alas, it is the last Friday in September. I guess it really is time for the September Runfessions and Friday Five 2.0. I’ve got a lot to runfess this month so grab your cuppa Joe, pull up a seat, and get comfy. Shall we?
I Think I Might Love Hills {September Runfessions}
I runfess…
Kids Run the Nation is kicking my a$$.
I underestimated just how tiring this program would be! And I’m not even talking about the running part. Noooo, I’m talking about the prep work involved. The making sure we have enough snacks for the kids, making sure my daughter has a sitter (or has something to do when she comes with us), writing up my notes, putting together a list of concepts and ideas on the dry erase board. It is so much more work than I envisioned. Luckily it is really, really fun. These kids are learning so much and it’s not even that they’re learning, it’s that they actually want to learn. I’m so glad I decided to take on Kids Run the Nation in my area. (P.S. Once the program is over for the season, I’ll be sure to recap it and give you the highlights. It’s been an amazing ride!)
I’m super mad about a running shirt.
I ordered these awesome running shirts for No Excuses Running. We were going to wear them for Kids Run the Nation coaching. My husband’s arrived — but where was mine? Mine was in printing limbo somewhere. The original order said the shirts would arrive by September 18th. September 18th came and went without any sort of update. No “hey, your order is still printing, sorry for the delay!” Nothing. So I sent them an email. “Yo, where’s my shirt?” Nada. After waiting two more days, I finally sent them a scathing email to cancel my order. The response was immediate and the order was cancelled.
Seriously?!?!
Argh, I’m so mad!!! If they had just told me where my shirt was or that there was a delay in processing as quickly as they responded to my cancellation request, I wouldn’t be nearly as peeved. Grrrrrr…
I runfess…
I think I might love hills.
Did I just type that? Guess so… I think I might actually love hills. I feel like this summer has been full of running anomalies for me. First, since when do I like hill repeats? That’s completely ridiculous and unheard of. All last summer my coach had them on my training plan and I was all, “naw, I’m good.” This year I’m like, “bring it!”
Second, I can’t run flat land for the life of me. I struggled big time last weekend. As I was completing my 12-miler this week, I realized how much I rely on elevation changes to give my muscles a break. I thought my struggle was due to the heat last week, but now I’m thinking it was more the lack of hills more than anything. My last half mile last week? Uphill. And I flew. I runfess — I might love hills.
I don’t get what’s up with all the sheet pan recipes.
When did those become a thing? All of a sudden I’m seeing an onslaught of sheet pan this or sheet pan that. Not that I’m complaining because simplicity is where it’s at, right? Especially if you’re a busy person with busy mouths to feed. And a lot of those sheet pan recipes look really delicious. It’s just strange that all of a sudden “sheet pan” recipes are everywhere.
Eating is becoming a chore.
Speaking of food, eating is becoming a huge chore and I’m totally not okay with it. I’m training for a marathon and trying to fuel appropriately. Meanwhile, I’m also trying to stay the same weight and not gain a million pounds by overeating. But there are all these damn rules when it comes to food.
Don’t eat sugar — it causes inflammation.
Eating meat is terrible. It contributes to all sorts of chronic diseases and it’s bad for the environment.
Don’t eat nuts because they have chemicals that affect your hormones.
Dairy is a no-no, especially if you have to take a Lactaid every time you eat it.
White carbs are bad.
WHAT IN THE ACTUAL F AM I ALLOWED TO EAT?!
It’s so obvious how disordered eating starts. With all of these rules, these “do’s and don’ts” of eating — it’s insanity!!!
I can’t even. #facepalm
I can’t help it if I like the hills and I get cranky about all the #foodrules. Can you blame me?
Have a fabulous weekend. I’ll be running my last super long run before taper time. I’m so exhausted — I runfess I can’t wait for a little breather!
xo
Let’s talk!
What are you getting into this weekend?
Hills: love ’em or hate ’em?
