Happy Friday! As a lot of us prepare for our long runs over the weekend, I’d like to delve into what y’all listen to on the run! I haven’t been listening to much as I’ve been running with people more lately (yay!), but when I do run alone on my long runs, I much prefer podcasts to music. Don’t get me wrong, I love music. Loooooove music. But since I was recommended to listen to a podcast, I have been hooked ever since. If any of you have your own podcast, get in touch as I would love to get involved and show my support! I have recently also found that you can use podcast show notes to grow your audience after speaking to some producers who have used this, it is known to provide brilliant results! Obviously, I would also love to share your podcasts with my audience too so do reach out! Anyway, I am all for listening to podcasts over listening to music. Sometimes during a long run I get bored — like I want to talk to someone. Podcasts offer at least half the conversation so I usually feel entertained more by podcasts than music. Check out these five podcasts that you should listen to on your next long run!
Five Podcasts You Should Listen to on Your Next Run
1. Beautiful Stories from Anonymous People
This is one of the more fascinating podcasts I listen to. There’s always a funny or sad, or interesting and even sometimes boring, story on Beautiful Anonymous. The premise is that an anonymous caller gets to hijack Chris Gethard’s airwaves for one hour. They can talk about whatever they want. Chris can’t hang up, but the caller can. Most of the episodes have been pretty tame but a few had me shaking my head! I highly recommend this podcast.
2. Serial
I’m sure most of the world knows about Serial so I’m not going to sing it many praises. What I love about Serial is that it focuses on one story for the duration of the season. The country was riveted with the Adnan Syed story. I know a lot of people kind of trailed off with Bowe Bergdahl but I stuck it out and actually learned a lot more than I had known through typical media coverage. I look forward to season 3, if there is one.
3. This American Life
I have a love-hate with This American Life. Some episodes are awesome. Others are a little boring. There was one that was fantastic and it totally blew my mind. Turns out it was from the archives and it was a 15 year old story. Who knew?!
4. My Dad Wrote a Porno
This one’s new to me but I’m totally gonna dig into it. Someone in one of my ambassador groups said it was hilarious. The premise of My Dad Wrote a Porno is that the host’s dad wrote a porno (not a very good one, apparently) and each week he reads a chapter of it.
5. Running on Om
Running on Om is an inspirational podcast and features stories and commentary from folks such as the founders of the November Project, the senior editor of Runner’s World website, Bobbi Gibb (the first woman to run the Boston Marathon) and others. Each episode is 60-90 minutes, so you can easily fit in two for longer runs.
I hope you enjoy your long run this weekend — and definitely give one of these podcasts a try!
